Rose Rippy, 86, of 1513 Thorpe Street, New Castle, formerly of 420 Fourth Ave., Johnsonburg, died Wednesday evening, April 10, 2013, at the residence of her daughter, Mary Ann Wright, following a lengthy illness.
She was born January 1, 1927 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Feldbauer Uhl.
On July 2, 1949 she married Francis J. "Jude" Rippy, and he preceded her in death December 27, 1995.
Ridgway boys basketball was honored with a banquet at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Varsity head coach Anthony Allegretto presented the awards. Joe Jaques was the scholar-athlete award winner and won the Herbie Lenze Award. Allegretto said he values the scholar-athlete award the most because of the importance of getting an education.

ERIE – A St. Marys man charged with the theft of nearly a half-million dollars from the Elk County Humane Society as well as clients of his financial practice is now scheduled to accept a plea offer in an Erie Federal Courtroom later this month.
The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority has initiated a leak detection program in an effort to resolve water accountability issues.
ST. MARYS – Early plans were discussed regarding the possible re-location of the St. Marys Catholic Middle School into Elk County Catholic High School during two Parent Information Meetings held Wednesday.
Sharon L. Keith, 46, of 139 Commons Lane, Ridgway, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a short illness.
She was born March 7, 1967 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Frederick "Fred" and Carol McCauley Redmond.
She resided in Ridgway most of her life, and was formerly of Johnsonburg and Brockway.
She graduated from Johnsonburg Area High School in 1986. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church. She was employed by The Hut Restaurant in Brockway for 10 years.
Violet M. Clouser, age 91, formerly of the Ridgmont Assisted Living facility in Ridgway, died Wednesday morning, April 10, 2013 at the DuBois Nursing Home following a brief illness.
Agnes M. Calla, 95, of 230 Beech Street, Johnsonburg, died Tuesday evening, April 9, 2013 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born October 10, 1917 in Rasselas, daughter of the late Peter and Leona Markert Myers.
On June 8, 1943 she married Ferdinand "Fred" Calla, and he preceded her in death May 11, 1999.
Formerly of Rasselas, she resided in Johnsonburg most of her life. She graduated from Wilcox High School and was a member of Holy Rosary Church. She had worked at Stackpole Carbon Co. and the Ridgway Hospital.

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg boys basketball was honored with a banquet Sunday afternoon at the Johnsonburg Fire Hall to celebrate a historic 30-win season.
Finance Manager Brent Rhoads of the Ridgway Area School District reviewed several adjustments made to a preliminary budget during a regular board meeting Tuesday night.
