With impressive turnouts for the first two years, YMCA officials and various volunteers from the community are looking forward to the third annual "Kids Triathlon" scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at 11 a.m.
"This is a great event for our local youths," said Mary Lynne Bellotti, executive director of the Ridgway YMCA. "We are once again pleased to be able to put it together.Â
"There are several different age groups for both boys and girls and each event is designed to fit that age group."
According to Ridgway YMCA executive director Mary Lynne Bellotti, the popular North Broad Street facility has flourished as of late, especially during the summer months.
"There is a whole lot going on at the Ridgway YMCA this summer," Bellotti said. "We have been on the go nonstop."
Among the bright spots provided by the facility and its employees is the Ridgway YMCA Summer Camp program, an initiative offered from the time local schools go out of session right up until the first day of classes in the fall.
The Ridgway YMCA continues to provide its Child Care Center program to area residents.
The program cares for children ages three through kindergarten and employees provide a full preschool curriculum. Each day, several youths have the opportunity to be a part of a program that is not just a daycare.
"We take pride in being able to offer not only child care, but a complete preschool curriculum.” said Shawna Steger as she described the licensed child care facility. "It is our goal to get our children ready for kindergarten."

ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Legion was shut out 7-0 by Wilcox on Wednesday evening in the final game of the Elk County American Legion championship series. The teams had split the previous two games of the series, bringing about the need for the third game in the best-of-three series.
Jordan Weinzierl started on the mound for St. Marys and worked 4 1-3 innings, giving up three hits and striking out two. Ben Daghir worked 2 2-3 innings in relief, giving up four hits and striking out four.
BROCKPORT – The Horton Township Supervisors voted unanimously to seal Bundy Settlement and Squab Hollow Roads during their regular meeting Wednesday night.
Authority members approved a purchase of one load of oil for approximately $16,000.
According to roadmaster Randy Carr, oil is estimated at $3.30 per gallon.
"When I first started here it was 28 cents a gallon," Carr said.
Carr also suggested other roads that could use some of the oil.
Gale “Moose” Stahli, age 74, of Wilcox Road, Johnsonburg, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the DuBois Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
He was born April 26, 1937 in Johnsonburg, son of Michael and Garnet (Wolf) Stahli, deceased.
He was a member of the VFW, Piedmonte, Sportsmens, Eagles, and American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending his winters in Florida. He lived all his life in Johnsonburg.
Lillian Maculata Finno, 87, of 1647 Silver Creek Rd., Johnsonburg, died on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 8, 1924, the daughter of the late Carmen and Immaculata DiNophrio Finno.
She resided in Johnsonburg her entire life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1941.
She was a member of the Holy Rosary Church. Her hobbies were cooking and baking and she enjoyed sharing with all her friends. She loved people and animals. She devoted much of her free time to volunteering in causes she thought would be beneficial to society.

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg Municipal Authority member Ed Gapinski updated borough council members Monday on the status of the water sales agreement with the Hunt Marcellus Operating Company.
The agreement for the municipal authority to sell the Hunt Marcellus Operating Company up to 157,000 gallons of water per day was put on hold last month by the Department of Environmental Protection [DEP].
"We are in trouble with DEP," Gapinski said. "We have outstanding VOCs [Violations of Compliance]. We have a control panel that should be installed at Silver Creek right now."
Spring Creek Township officials found few problems at campsites along Cemetery Road after receiving an anonymous letter that questioned building and sewage practices.
"I checked into all the complaints and I have copies of all the zoning permits from Russ Braun-- I did talk to the assessment office and they are paying taxes on one of those, they plan to check out the other building and see if there are taxes on that one," said supervisor Donna Kosick.
A new building is reportedly being constructed in Hallton along Cemetery Road.
Road work will soon commence in Spring Creek Township after Jefferson Paving Corp. submitted the lowest bid Monday night during a Board of Supervisors meeting.
Jefferson Paving out of Brookville gave a bid of $55,208.58. The company was followed by Russell Standard Corp. out of Union City for $61,820.15 and New Enterprise Stone & Lime, Co., Inc. for $66,898.80.
