Bunny Hop continues to raise brain aneurysm awareness

ST. MARYS – In the spring of 2011, Taylor Frank, her sister Carly, and siblings Rachael, Michael, and Daniel Paladino were planning a 5K run/walk in honor of their mothers, both of whom had recently succumbed to brain aneurysms. They wanted to hold the event the Saturday before Easter and, according to Taylor Frank, that original plan had it beginning and ending at her home.
"We thought only our friends and family would come," she said.
However, as word spread, more and more people began to register for the event.

From mom to marathoner; Quesenberry vows to return to Boston

ST. MARYS – On Monday at 11 a.m., Molly Quesenberry, 42, of St. Marys will take to the starting line of the Boston Marathon fulfilling a vow she made to return to the race.
"I feel like it's about going out there and supporting Boston, the victims, other runners and doing it for that reason and not really for myself. If you stay away and don't go back then you're giving in and that's what the people who did it want," Quesenberry said.
One year ago Quesenberry and her family experienced the terror of the bombings that killed three and injured nearly 260 spectators.

Theresa A. Murray

Theresa A. Murray, 67, of 115 Kings Point, Glenshaw, died Thursday evening, April 17, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
She was born June 6, 1946 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Ferdinand "Fred" and Agnes Myers Calla. On Oct. 10, 1975, she married Patrick J. Murray and he survives.
She graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1964 and resided in Glenshaw for the past 34 years.
She was a member of St. Sebastian Church. She was employed by Keystone Carbon Co. for several years and Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital for several years.

Chad M. Meals

Chad M. Meals, 38, of 95 Hospital St., Ridgway, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was born Dec. 29, 1975 in Ridgway, son of Samuel Meals of New York and the late Tina Shrefler.
Chad enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Patricia L. Gavazzi

Patricia L. Gavazzi, 80, of 185 Center St., St. Marys, formerly of Kane Street, Wilcox, died Friday morning, April 18, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, following a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 13, 1933 in Wilcox, daughter of Alfred and Anna Halquist Lundberg.
She has been married to Aldo Gavazzi for the past 59 years, marrying on Nov. 13, 1954, and he survives.
She resided in Wilcox all her life and was a Wilcox High School graduate.

JOHNSONBURG – The defending District 9 Class A baseball champion is making a claim to be a favorite for that crown again.
Elk County Catholic moved to 6-0 on the season with a 9-1 victory over Johnsonburg Thursday afternoon at Knothole Area Recreational Park.

JOHNSONBURG – The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch tennis team improved to 4-0 on the season as they blanked the Johnonsburg Rams 9-0 Thursday afternoon in a match played at Johnsonburg.

Chamber gearing up for Tasteful Town

The Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for another of their First Friday Events. May's First Friday event, scheduled to begin May 2 at 4 p.m., will be a "Tasteful Town Tour," and will begin at the Chamber of Commerce, located along Main Street.
"We feel they have been very successful," said Chamber executive Director Tina Clancy concerning the various First Friday Events that have been held this year.
