After sending out thousands of pounds of electronics through a fundraiser to support CAPSEA (Citizens Against Physical, Sexual, and Emotional Abuse, Inc.) the Elk County Solid Waste Authority earned $828.
The fundraiser, which was a test fundraiser for the solid waste authority, started in October to coincide with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

RIDGWAY TWP. â€“ A vehicle crash was reported late Wednesday night in the vicinity of 1456 Ridgway Johnsonburg Road in Ridgway Township. Elk Company 4 (Ridgway Fire Department) was dispatched along with the Ridgway-based state police shortly after 11:30 p.m. No further information was available at press time.
Timothy Potts, general manager of the north operation for the RJ Corman Railroad Company visited North Central's quarterly full board meeting Wednesday to discuss the progress towards an "economic development project."
The project, which is expected to revitalize nearly 20 miles of railroad between Curwensville and DuBois that would connect RJ Corman's railroads to the Buffalo & Pittsburgh railroad, is being discussed by North Central as a significant economic development that could open up the region to additional markets, according to North Central Executive Director Eric Bridges.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Brothers involved in a canoe accident that claimed the life of Brittany Baird of DuBois waived their preliminary hearings at Magisterial District Judge George "Tony" King's office Wednesday afternoon and will proceed to the Elk County Court of Common Pleas.
Angelo Vincent Varischetti, 22, and Anthony Steven Varischetti, 26, both of Brockway, are charged with several counts of operating watercraft under influence of alcohol, reckless operation of watercraft and negligent operation of watercraft for the May 24, 2014 incident on the Clarion River near Ridgway.
KANE â€“ It wasnâ€™t that long ago that Kane native Trisha Wright was fulfilling a dream as the first athletic trainer in the Kane Area School District.
â€śI got paid to watch sports and help kids when they were hurt,â€ť Wright said. â€śI loved it.â€ť
She sometimes dealt with serious injuries such as concussions and broken bones.
Most often, Wright was just another spectator at school athletic events.
â€śYou hope youâ€™re not busy,â€ť she said.
A 1994 graduate of Kane High School, Wright served as the school district athletic trainer for 12 1/2 years between 1998 and 2010.
ST. MARYS â€“ A St. Marys man was arrested Tuesday for theft of an antique rifle, a Winchester Model 1892 44-40, from the property of Lynch-Green Funeral Home where he was formerly employed.
Based on the victim's statements, Sgt. Thomas Nicklas of the St. Marys Police Department went to the residence of Richard Alan Prow, 60, of 346 N. Michael St. where the rifle was located in Prow's car.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Prow stated that he had found the rifle while cleaning the garage of the funeral home property during his employment there. He said he was told he could have it.
A St. Marys man charged in the September 2013 shooting death of June Talmadge is scheduled for jury call Monday, Feb. 2 at Elk County Court.
Michael J. Stephanic Jr., 45, of St. Marys, faces charges of criminal homicide, two felony counts of aggravated assault and a felony charge of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure for the incident that occurred at Eastern Sintered Alloys.
Monday's court session will be Stephanic's last opportunity to enter a plea before proceeding to jury selection, which is currently scheduled for Feb. 9.
