Johnsonburg man charged with assaulting child's mother

JOHNSONBURG – Daniel Clayton Whitenak, 26, of 215 Oak St., Johnsonburg, is charged with simple assault and harassment over a dispute with his child's mother that occurred on July 28.

New layout of road questioned

ST. MARYS – As the state Route 255 construction project continues, inquiries have been made regarding the newly reconstructed Arch Street intersection. The new layout includes an alignment of the West Arch intersection with East Arch Street. Due to this, a curve was created at the entrance of West Arch.
St. Marys City Councilman Greg Gebauer voiced his concern stating a fire truck would not make the turn if positioned in the right turn lane traveling south. Gebauer is a volunteer with the Crystal Fire Department.

Motorcyclist dies in Fox Township crash

FOX TWP. – A 38-year-old St. Marys man died Monday when he reportedly lost control of his motorcycle on Shelvey Summit Road in Fox Township.
The crash occurred at 6:37 p.m. on Monday, July 28 as a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by David M. Terwilliger, 38, of St. Marys, was traveling north on Shelvey Summit Road [SR 948]. Terwilliger lost control of the motorcycle and it exited the roadway. The motorcycle struck an embankment and became airborne.

St. Marys man sentenced in child pornography case

A St. Marys man was sentenced Monday for charges involving over 311 images of child pornography found on his computer.
Donald Henry Blessel, 36, was sentenced to nine to 24 months, less one day, of incarceration in Elk County Prison and three years of probation for the felony offenses of sexual abuse of children and possession of child pornography, both to which he pleaded guilty on March 14. He maintains the possibility of work release as the sexual offender assessment determined that he isn't a sexually violent predator and there was no identifiable victim in this case.

Mountain Man attends State College Spikes game; enjoys Pa.

STATE COLLEGE – The State College Spikes, a Class A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, welcomed "Duck Dynasty" cast member Tim "Mountain Man" Guraedy to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Saturday.

Conservation District discusses new and old projects

The Elk County Conservation District held its regular monthly meeting on Monday to discuss the creation and continuation of several projects, a search for a new employee and the new state budget.

Tasting in the Wilds

Tasting in the Wilds, the largest annual fundraiser for the Ridgway Heritage Council, was held Saturday. Patrons were able to to sample beverages from eight different wineries located throughout the Pennsylvania Wilds and seven different breweries and beer retailers. Tastings were held from 12:30-6:30 p.m., with music provided throughout the day.

Car sheers off utility pole in crash

ST. MARYS – A one-vehicle rollover crash closed down a portion of Brusselles Street in St. Marys on Friday evening at approximately 9:50 p.m. The crash occurred in the vicinity of 1250 Brusselles St. During the crash the vehicle struck a utility pole, sheering off part of it and knocking down several power lines.
