Jax Ethan Stone, 9, of Erie, died Sunday, July 27, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Erie on Nov. 11, 2004, a son of Sean Stone and his wife Lisa and Tara Braendel Durian and her husband Steve.
Jax attended Tracy Elementary School. He was selfless, brave, courageous and always helped and cared for others. He enjoyed video games and loved the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and deck hockey.
Sara Jane Beimel, 70, of 686 Shelvey Summit Rd., Kersey, died on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at her residence after an illness of the past year.
She was born Dec. 25, 1943, in Ridgway, daughter of the late Kathryn Thomas.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1961. She worked for many years as a beautician at her shop and also served as secretary of Jireh Lanes in Kersey, which her family owns.
On Sept. 1, 1962, in the St. Boniface Church, she married Harold C. Beimel, who survives.
Ardis M. Lunder, 83, of Oknefski Road, Ridgway, died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Penn Highland Elk.
She was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Ridgway, daughter of George W. and Melva E. Kelly Oknefski.
She married Leo W. Lunder, he predeceased her on March 30, 1981.
She had resided in Ridgway all of her life. She was a graduate of Ridgway Area High School, Class of 1948. Ardis enjoyed dancing, baking, sewing and gardening.
John F. Hill Jr., 68, of 231 Grove Ave., Ridgway, died Wednesday evening, July 23, 2014 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 1, 1945 in Erie, son of the late John F. Hill Sr. and Helen E. (Smith) Hill
On Dec. 28, 1968, he married Karol Givens.
He had resided in Ridgway for the past 36 years, but he was also a former Kane resident.
He was a 1963 graduate of the Kane High School, a 1973 graduate of Penn State and a 1976 graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam Era.
Ralph Samuel Feldman Jr., 66, of Van Buren Avenue, Ridgway, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 10, 1947 in DuBois, son of the late Ralph S. Feldman Sr. and Emma Jean (Sidelinger) Feldman. On Dec. 4, 1965, he married Patricia Ann (Merat) Feldman, who survives.
Mr. Feldman worked at Stackpole Carbon of St. Marys for 20 years. He enjoyed motorcycles in his youth and was known for walking through town smoking his pipe.
Joseph â€śMoonâ€ť Asalone, 85, of Bennetts Valley Highway, Weedville, died Friday, July 18, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home after a brief illness.
He was born July 9, 1929 in Caledonia, son of the late Joseph M. and Emma (Bonfardine) Asalone.
On May 29, 1949, he married Catherine Lease in St. Joseph Church. She preceded him in death May 30, 2010.
He retired from Osram-Sylvania in 1991. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Master Sergeant in the 28th Infantry Division. He was a charter member of Valley Legion Post 978 where he served terms as Post Commander.
Margaret E. â€śBettyâ€ť Victor, 80, who died recently, was born July 26, 1933 in Ridgway.
She was the daughter of the late Lyle T. Shaver and Mary Law Shaver.
She was a graduate of the Ridgway Area schools. After graduating, she took a position as an administrative assistant at International Powdered Metals Company.
In 1955, she married M.T. â€śSpikeâ€ť Victor. She became a homemaker and raised her beloved stepdaughters, Carol Swanson, Peggy Howard, and Marcia Dunton. She was later blessed to have two children of her own, Michael and Frank Victor.
Dolores H. Sorg, 69, of 406 Maple Ave., Ridgway, died Saturday, July 19, 2014.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1945, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Donovan Ehrensberger.
On Aug. 25, 1973, in Queen of the World Church, she married Henry W. Sorg, who preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 2000.
Walter Joseph Zawacki, 91, of Bluefield, Va., died Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
He was born Nov. 24, 1922 in Ridgway.
As a child growing up during the Great Depression, Walter and his brother Alex picked berries and evergreens to help supplement the family income. Walter played football in high school and was known as â€śFreight Train.â€ť As a proud first generation Polish American he served our country during WWII aboard the aircraft repair ship The Major General Robert Olds.
Graveside committal services for Edith M. DeStefano, 94, who died Jan. 28, 2014, in Champaign, Ill., will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 10 a.m. in St. Leoâ€™s Cemetery. Officiating will be Deacon Lawrence Caggeso. Family and friends will be received at a luncheon in Aiello CafĂ©, immediately following the service. Funeral arrangements, are under the direction of the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home.
