Lady Elkers fall to ECC on Senior Night

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders fought back from a 2-1 match deficit and a match point in the final set for a 3-2 (25-11, 23-25, 24-26, 25-14, 16-14) victory over Ridgway Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
ECC won the first set but lost the next two to Ridgway, putting the Lady Elkers ahead entering the fourth set. The Lady Crusaders won the fourth set at 25-14 which set up the winner-take-all set.

Ramettes win on Senior Night

JOHNSONBURG – After squandering a two-set lead, the playoff-bound Johnsonburg Ramettes (14-9-1) earned a five-set win (25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 20-25, 15-9) Tuesday night over visiting Kane.
Taking the home court for the final time in the regular season, Johnsonburg's senior quintet needed five sets for the win after a furious rally from Kane to tie the match at two sets apiece.
After a tip at the net by Kane junior Audrey Perry to give the Lady Wolves a 5-2 lead in the third set, the home team came to life.

Elkers fall in playoffs

COUDERSPORT – A late comeback fell short for Ridgway boys soccer as the Elkers lost 3-2 to the Coudersport Falcons in the first round of the District 9 Class A boys soccer playoffs Monday night at CARP Park.
“I don’t know why they have to wake up in the second half but they made it interesting,” Ridgway coach John Ogden said. “I told them beforehand that they had nothing to lose, so play hard. A sloppy first half and an exciting second half, they’re the cardiac kids. They just came up short.”

Shamrocks lose in title game

DuBOIS – The Johnsonburg Shamrocks finished as the runner-up in the CPYFL junior varsity division this season after the DuBois Panthers won the title game 13-0 over the Shamrocks Saturday afternoon at Mansell Stadium in DuBois.
“I’m proud of all the kids,” Johnsonburg coach Bill Dilley said. “They’ve all worked hard. Since the end of July, we’ve been working hard. We’re proud of them.”

Elkers down Kane

KANE – Ridgway and Kane were submerged in a muddy defensive stalemate in the first half.
The Elkers used a timely long run and a long drive to emerge with the win.
Ridgway used 14 second-half points which were the only points of the game as the Elkers won 14-0 over Kane Friday night at Paul R. Miller Stadium.
"I'm proud of the kids," Ridgway coach Mark Heindl said. "Our offensive and defensive lines came to play."

Ramettes down St. Marys

ST. MARYS – The Johnsonburg Ramettes volleyball team handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch squad a 3-0 setback Thursday on Senior Night for St. Marys Area.
The Lady Dutch seniors along with their parents were recognized in pre-match ceremonies.
The Ramettes won the first set by a 25-19 margin. They took the second set 25-22 and won the third set 25-23 to win the match 3-0.
“I can’t be disappointed with the loss,” said St. Marys coach Erica Vogt.
“Overall we did well. The six seniors all did well tonight,” said Vogt.

Brianna Bush takes medalist honors

GREENSBURG – Seton Hill Griffin junior Brianna Bush took home medalist honors from the Sally Carroll Open which was hosted by Seton Hill University at Hannastown GC. The Griffin team finished second behind the winner Northwood (MI). The two day event concluded with the final round on Monday afternoon.

Rams hold Senior Night

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg boys soccer team honored its trio of seniors before Johnsonburg’s game against Port Allegany Wednesday night.
Luke Shreffler, Trey Rose and Tommy Imbrogno were honored.
The Gators would go on to win the game by a 7-2 margin.
Kyle Sheldon had a good chance in the box for the Rams with 24 minutes left in the first half, Johnsonburg also had a free kick near the Port Allegany penalty area early in the first half.

Ridgway cross country hosts trio of teams

October 18, 2011

Ridgway cross country hosted Brockway, St. Marys and Kane in action Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
In the varsity girls’ race, Adair Gennocro of St. Marys was the top finisher with a time of 19:07. Sloan Foster was third with a time of 22:03. Alexis Hanes had a time of 25:00 and Casey Kline had a mark of 27:29. Rachel Schreiber finished at 29:00, Cassie Wonderling had a time of 30:42 and Ashley Mertz had a time of 34:15.
Ridgway's Rachel Guyer had a time of 25:54.

Elkers fall to Rovers

Ridgway boys soccer lost in its regular season finale by a 5-0 margin to Brockway Monday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Ridgway had kept the Rovers at bay throughout much of the first 20 minutes as Elker goalkeeper Jesse Schneider made a number of good saves, including a one-handed leaping save on a shot by Phil Esposito.
Chris Calliari finally put the Rovers on the board with a goal with 21:05 remaining in the first half. Esposito was able to get a shot past the Ridgway defense with 12:17 left in the first half which put the Brockway lead 2-0.
