UNIVERSITY PARK – Johnsonburg senior second baseman Quinn Luhr summed up the emotions of the Rams after winning the Class A baseball championship game and having gold medals placed around their necks.
"It's a lot better than a silver," Luhr said.
It was certainly a golden day for Johnsonburg baseball as the Rams captured the PIAA Class A baseball championship with a 5-0 win over Canton in the title game Friday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

HOMER CITY – Johnsonburg's school year may have ended over a week ago but the Rams' success in the PIAA playoffs this season sure hasn't.
Johnsonburg advanced to the PIAA Class A championship game with an 8-1 win over WPIAL champion California in the PIAA semifinals Tuesday night at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City.

PUNXSUTAWNEY – It was an extra special winning moment for Quinn Luhr in the PIAA quarterfinal.
After keeping Johnsonburg baseball even with Bishop McCort, Luhr's RBI single in the bottom of the 11th helped the Rams to a 7-6, 11-inning victory over the Crushers Thursday at Rich Kuntz Memorial Field in Punxsutawney.
The win means there will be a new state champion in Class A baseball as Bishop McCort took the title for the 2012 season.

BUTLER – Johnsonburg is making quite a habit of winning in the PIAA playoffs.
After a run to the state title game in basketball earlier this year, Johnsonburg baseball is no exception as the Rams won their PIAA playoff opener 5-0 over Western Beaver Monday afternoon at Pullman Park in Butler.
Johnsonburg will now play District 6 champion Bishop McCort Thursday in the PIAA quarterfinals with a game site and time yet to be announced.
Johnsonburg starting pitcher Cole Peterson was dominant as he struck out 14 Western Beaver hitters in the complete game shutout.
May 30th
ST. MARYS – Timely hitting from Elk County Catholic's bottom of the order helped put the Crusaders back at the top in District 9 baseball.
Elk County Catholic used six combined hits from the No. 8 and No. 9 hitters in the batting order to hold off Johnsonburg 10-7 in the District 9 Class A baseball championship game Thursday afternoon at Berwind Park in St. Marys.
"Johnsonburg never quits," Elk County Catholic coach Father Eric Vogt said. "That's why they were the No. 1 seed. They played good baseball. They gave everything they had."
May 29th
ST. MARYS – Johnsonburg baseball had another comeback in them to give the Rams at least two more games in their season.
The Rams rallied from a 3-0 deficit to force extra innings and then won it in the bottom of the eighth with a run for a 4-3 victory over Cranberry Wednesday afternoon at Berwind Park of St. Marys.

SHIPPENSBURG – Johnsonburg triple jumper Gabbi Benninger finished a co-silver medalist for Johnsonburg track and field after completion of the second day of the PIAA Track and Field Championships Saturday at Shippensburg University.
Benninger tied for second with her jump of 36-9.5. Kayla Caruso of Montoursville also jumped 36-9.5. Lanae Newsome of Brookville won the state championship in triple jump with her mark of 39-6.75. Newsome is the state record-holder in triple jump with her mark of 40-3.5 set last year at the state meet. Newsome will be graduating this year.

SHIPPENSBURG – Johnsonburg track and field opened competition at the first day of the PIAA Track and Field championships held at Seth Grove Stadium on the campus of Shippensburg University.

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg baseball is back in the district semifinals.
The Rams had timely hitting and a strong starting pitching effort to win 3-0 over Coudersport in the District 9 Class A baseball quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
Cole Peterson struck out 10 for the Rams in a complete game effort. Coudersport had three hits against the junior pitcher.
