John E. Charleson, 73, of 240 High Ave., Ridgway, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 8, 1939 in Reynoldsville, son of the late Harry N. and Mary Ann (Anderson) Charlesen.
He married Nancy A. Knight on May 12, 1962 in Queen of the World Catholic Church in St. Marys.
He resided in Ridgway for the last 67 years and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, a member of the Lions Club, the Elks, and the Eagles. He had also been a board member of the Ridgway Ambulance Corp.
Students of the Ridgway Area High School held a dress rehearsal Monday night in the auditorium for their production of Beauty and the Beast. The Ridgway High School will be presenting Beauty and the Beast beginning Thursday, Feb. 28 through March 2 at 7 p.m. at the high school auditorium.
CLARION â€” Pennsylvania State Police have charged a 29-year-old man with the alleged murder of a 19-year-old Brookville woman.
Following a decision by the Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] to institute general permit fees for stream and wetland projects, the Elk County Conservation District approved a motion to waive fees for reviewing the permit.
ST. MARYS â€“ A rumor that the St. Marys Area Ambulance Service will be merging with Cameron County Ambulance is not true, according to officials; however, St. Marys employees will assist Cameron County with coverage.
Sally L. Myers, age 44, of Market Street, Johnsonburg, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 20, 1968 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Wallace and Lorna (Amory) Myers.
A graduate of the Johnsonburg Area School District, Sally enjoyed caring for animals and especially loved her dogs. She lived all her life in Johnsonburg.
The 14th Annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous wrapped up Saturday with a large auction which started at noon and featured 200 pieces, each sculpture donated by a different carver. Visitors crowded around the Udarbe Business Towers where carvings were arranged along the street for all to view.
CLARION â€“ Three area wrestlers advanced to the Northwest Regional Championships after the second day of the District 9 Individual Championships at Clarion University Saturday.
Alex Zimmerman finished second at 132 pounds for Johnsonburg to advance. Brett Himes (126) and Zac McKnight (145) each finished third in their respective weight classes.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Residents in Johnsonburg will not likely see a rate increase on their fire insurance.
Donald G. Olson, 91, of 315 Jackson Ave., Ridgway, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, Feb. 24, 2013, at Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born March 19, 1921 in Ridgway, son of the late Fritz and Molly (Nelson) Olson.
He married Martha E. Miller on Sept. 14, 1946 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Marys, with Fr. Henry officiating.
He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a 1938 graduate of the Ridgway High School. He was a member of the Ridgway Elks Club, and a past member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WWII.
