ST. MARYS â€“ Once again, Wilcox has the fate of a tournament come down to one game.
Wilcox will play for the Region 8 championship this afternoon after an 11-6 loss to French Creek Tuesday night at Berwind Park.
French Creek Valley will play Albion at 1 p.m. with the winner to play Wilcox at 4 p.m. for the championship. Wilcox also faced this situation in the Elk County League Tournament as the team lost to Fox Township but rebounded to win the following day in the league title game.
With Dickinson Mental Health Center just days away from unveiling its new 28,200-square-foot facility located at 43 Servidea Drive along Route 219 in Ridgway Township, Dickinson CEO Jack Goga explained the motives and incentives behind the new $4.1 million facility.
Groundbreaking at the site took place in October 2011 and according to the DMHC website, the construction is ahead of schedule. As a result, DMHC programs to be housed within the new facility are scheduled to begin their relocations as soon as Aug. 1, with the process continuing through Aug. 9.
Joseph F. Ehrensberger, 69, of 114 Cadillac Rd., St. Marys, died peacefully Tuesday morning, July 24, 2012 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 11, 1942 in St. Marys, son of the late Joseph A. Ehrensberger, who died in 2001, and Clara B. Speaker Ehrensberger of St. Marys, who survives. On June 10, 1961 in the St. Maryâ€™s Church, he married Carol A. Bauer, who survives.
A joint investigation between the Pennsylvania State Police at the Ridgway barracks and the Ridgway Borough Police Department has resulted in the arrest of Francis "Tony" Milliard, 54, and Anthony Milliard, 28, both of Ridgway.
Francis Milliard was apprehended on felony arrest warrants for multiple counts of arson, criminal mischief, and recklessly endangering another person, charges related to a May 30 fire at the residence of Pauline Smith, 521 West Main St. in Ridgway Township.
Anthony Milliard was also charged as a co-defendant in the matter.
ST. MARYS â€“ The third inning has been a magic one for Wilcox at the Region 8 tournament.
Wilcox scored five runs in the third inning for the third consecutive game as Wilcox went to 3-0 on the tournament with a 14-6 win over Millcreek Monday night at Berwind Park in St. Marys.
"It was a nice start, that big inning again," Wilcox coach Jeff Peterson said. "I think we hit the third every time. It's usually the second time around in the lineup we see it and we're on it. The kids are really adjusting well and picking it up a notch."
The Elk County Conservation District was recognized for its 50 years of service during a two-day annual joint conference hosted by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts and the State Conservation Commission.
District Manager Steve Putt reported attending a conference held in Scranton on July 9 and 10 to accept the Award of Appreciation.
"At the conference they recognized a few districts including us," Putt said. "This is our 50th anniversary so they gave us this certificate to honor those 50 years."
ST. MARYS â€“ A poignant ceremony that offers area residents the opportunity to honor someone special will again be held by Community Nurses, Inc.
The Community Nurses Butterfly Release for Hospice will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5 at The Serenity Garden, behind the organization's building on the campus of Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys. The general public is invited to the release, which allows area residents to honor their loved ones and benefits the Community Nurses' Hospice program.
Shawn M. â€śBuckâ€ť McCabe, 41, of Johnsonburg, and recently of Rock Hill, S.C., died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 22, 2012.
He was born Dec. 5, 1970 in Ridgway, son of Robert and Patricia (Klink) McCabe of Johnsonburg.
A large crowd turned out Saturday, July 21 for the annual Ridgway Firemen's Carnival parade.
Overcast skies provided comfortable temperatures Saturday during the parade that lasted nearly two hours. A new addition to this year's event was performances by the varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders from Marion Center High School.
Fire trucks came from Johnsonburg, Wilcox, Fox Township, Horton Township, Kane, Highland Township, Mt. Jewett, and others to add extra spice to the event.

ST. MARYS â€“ Wilcox starting pitcher Quinn Luhr picked a good time to turn in one of his best pitching performances.
Luhr threw 7 1-3 innings and gave up three runs as Wilcox won its second game of the Region 8 tournament 8-3 over Albion Sunday afternoon at Berwind Park in St. Marys.
