JOHNSONBURG â€“ Corporal Greg Agosti, a fire marshal for the Ridgway-based State Police, reported investigating a fire that occurred Sunday afternoon at 236 Blaine Ave. in Johnsonburg.
ERIE â€“ Jury selection in the trial of Richard Allen Danz, 48, of St. Marys, federally indicted on charges of wire fraud and money laundering, will commence in federal court in Erie during the court term beginning May 6, 2013.
The St. Marys Neighborhood Girls Scouts are busy planning their upcoming trip to the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park. The educational trip, taking place May 10-11, is open to all area scouts and their female family and friends as they tour the park, dine and sleep over in a battleship and visit Niagara Falls.
ALTOONA â€“ Johnsonburg girls basketball lost 47-26 to Bishop Guilfoyle in the first round of the PIAA Class A girls basketball playoffs held Saturday at Altoona High School.
Coming into the game, the Ramettes knew they would have a challenge coming in against the Lady Marauders (25-2), the District 6 champion.
"To play that tough with a No. 1 seed, I told my girls 'I've never been so proud of you,'" Johnsonburg coach Mike Zilkofski said. "You hung in with them all game. I told them I was proud of the season they had and what they accomplished and to not hang their heads low."
CLARION â€“ It didn't take long for Johnsonburg to assert its will over Eisenhower.
After an emphatic opening block from Cameron Grumley on the game's first sequence, the Rams sprinted to a 17-7 first-quarter lead en route to a 62-30 win over the Knights Friday night in the first round of the PIAA Class A boys' basketball playoffs held at Clarion University.
Grumley swatted an opening layup from Aaron Lundmark off the opening tip.
"I don't know if that took them out of the game right there but it was a message, sure," Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said. "It was definitely a message."
The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority held their final meeting at 164 Ridgway Dr. Thursday night.
All meetings for the remainder of the 2013, beginning Thursday, April 4, will be held at the new township municipal building located at 1537 Montmorenci Rd.
Meeting are held the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.
CLARION â€“ The Ridgway Elkers overcame early foul trouble and a halftime deficit to drop Homer Center by a 63-39 score Friday night at Tippin Gymnasium on the Clarion University campus in the first round of the Class A state playoffs.
The Elkers were led by Sam Roselli, a strong force inside with nine field goals for 18 points, and standout senior Jesse Reynolds, who turned in 12 points for Ridgway.
Thomas J.Â Dulaney, 76, of Waynesburg, died at 1 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Southwest Regional Medical Center in Waynesburg.
He was born Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1936 in Waynesburg, a son of the late Fred Dulaney and Madge Wright Dulaney.Â With the exception of seven years in Ridgway, Mr. Dulaney spent his entire life in Greene County.
Mary Lou Knapp DiNardo, 80, of 424 Water Street Extension, Johnsonburg, died early Thursday morning, March 7, 2013 at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys following a brief illness.
She was born on May 7, 1932 in Johnstown, daughter of the late LaRue and Mildred Hunter Knapp.
She had been married to John Murphy II and the late George DiNardo.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ In an effort to continue to offer athletic opportunities to area students, administration from the Ridgway and Johnsonburg Area School Districts have organized a joint proposal that was presented Thursday night in public meetings in both boroughs.
