Johnsonburg baseball routs Curwensville

As the temperature went up Saturday morning, so did Johnsonburg's level of play.
Johnsonburg baseball made quick work of the Curwensville Golden Tide for a 14-0, five-inning win at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.
"It was nice to come out and get a win like that," Johnsonburg assistant coach Wayne Zilkofski said. "The kids really came out and swung the bat well."

Ridgway Main Street Program has been designated as an accredited National Main Street Program for meeting the commercial district revitalization performance standards set by the National Main Street Center, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Each year, the National Main Street Center and its partners announce the list of accredited Main Street programs in recognition of their exemplary commitment to historic preservation and community revitalization through the Main Street Four Point Approach.

Apartment burglarized with dead tenant inside

ST. MARYS – A St. Marys man has been arrested and is facing multiple charges in district court after he burglarized an apartment while the occupant laid dead inside.
Richard E. Pounds Jr., 39, of 121 Gerber Rd., St. Marys, was charged Thursday at the office of Magisterial District Judge Mark S. Jacob with burglary, a felony of the first degree, criminal trespass, a felony of the second degree, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, a misdemeanor of the first degree, and criminal mischief, a summary offense.

ECC boys tennis downs Johnsonburg, 8-1

JOHNSONBURG – Elk County Catholic boys tennis defeated Johnsonburg 8-1 Friday afternoon on a hot day at Johnsonburg Area High School.
"Was very pleased with our play today," Elk County Catholic coach Aaron Straub said. "We had an opportunity to play three non-regular singles players in today's match and they all played very well."

RTMA reviewing Evergreen Tank repair options

The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority continues to review options to repair its Evergreen Tank which has a damaged overflow panel near the top of the tank that needs repaired after it was likely damaged by ice within the tank.
RTMA Works Superintendent Andrew Gosnell discussed the tank repairs at Thursday's monthly meeting of the RTMA Board of Directors.

Johnsonburg baseball head coach Jeff Peterson could only describe his win Thursday against Brockway in one word.
Solid.
Johnsonburg moved to 8-6 on the season with a 5-0 win over Brockway Thursday afternoon against the Rovers at Sandy Beach Recreational Park in Ridgway Township.

JASD's balanced budget shows maximum tax increase

JOHNSONBURG – A balanced preliminary budget for the Johnsonburg Area School District will include a tax increase equal to the maximum amount allowed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, according to JASD board treasurer Patty Calkins.
Calkins made the announcement during a JASD school board budget workshop on Wednesday, a workshop which included discussions on the preliminary budget, which is expected to be voted upon during the school board's upcoming board meeting Thursday, May 14.

Suspicious packages cause emergency response

Three suspicious packages intercepted by law enforcement at the Elk County Courthouse prompted a large emergency response by local police officers and fire department members.
Elk County Sheriff Theresa Merritt said the "suspicious packages" were delivered to the courthouse in Ridgway and were quickly "removed from the building so everyone was safe in the building and court could operate."
The packages were discovered between 10:45-11 a.m.
