Lady Dutch hold off late rally to top Ramettes 44-39

JOHNSONBURG – The St. Marys Lady Dutch (7-15) spoiled the Johnsonburg Ramettes' (6-16) Senior Night on Tuesday with a 44-39 win in the Paper City.
Lady Dutch junior Rachel Bauer stole the show as she turned in an impressive performance, scoring 22 points to pace all scorers.

Johnsonburg 2014 fire loss totaled $281,000

JOHNSONBURG – The total fire loss for the Johnsonburg Borough in 2014 was $281,100, according to Johnsonburg Fire Department Fire Chief Robert Dickey.
Dickey made the announcement as part of his 2014 annual fire report that he presented Monday to the Johnsonburg Borough Council during the council's regular monthly meeting.
The $281,000 in fire loss damages for 2014 were associated with 10 different properties that were damaged throughout the year.
The individual damages for properties ranged from $100 to $70,000.

School under fire for alleged juvenile sexual assault

ST. MARYS – A heated discussion about St. Marys Area School District officials' response to an alleged juvenile sexual assault garnered criticism from parents in attendance at Monday's Board of Directors meeting.
School board members found themselves defending their actions as required by law and school district procedures.

No one hurt in small Highland Twp. fire

HIGHLAND – No one was injured Monday afternoon in a fire in the basement of a residence on Highland Road near the Highland Hotel in Highland Township.
Bill Edinger, chief of the Highland Township Volunteer Fire Department, said the fire was contained to a plastic bucket used for the disposal of ashes from a wood-burner.

Johnsonburg boys basketball downs St. Marys on Senior Night

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg's seniors went out with a victory as the Rams downed St. Marys 47-33 Monday night on Senior Night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
It was Johnsonburg's fourth straight win to move the Rams to 12-9.
St. Marys led 18-17 after a Parker Housler trey from the corner with 2:27 left before halftime. Johnsonburg would close out the half on a 7-0 run and had an overall 20-4 spurt from Housler's three until the end of the third quarter.

The Arizona Wildcats traveled to Tempe to face in state rival Arizona State for what they expected to be an easy game. Arizona State came into the game at the bottom of the PAC 12 at 3-6 in conference play. The Sun Devils came out firing as they shot 50% from the field (26/52) and 46.7% from 3 (7/15). Guard Bo Barnes paced the Sun Devils with 18 points including a perfect 8 for 8 from the charity stripe.

Jones Twp. home total loss after fire

JONES TWP. – A home in Jones Township has been declared a total loss after an accidental electrical fire started Saturday afternoon inside the home and caused substantial damage to the interior.
At 2:47 p.m. on Saturday, Elk Company 6 (Wilcox Fire Department) was dispatched to 2082 Old State Rd. for a structure fire.
The fire started in a home belonging to James "Snip" Snyder who was not in the home at the time of the fire.

Ridgway quilter to be showcased in international show

Jeanne Hall, a local quilter from Ridgway, has been selected as one of over 200 quilters who have had their quilts picked to be a part of an American Quilter's Society, AQS, show in Lancaster.
Hall will join others from 36 states and 10 countries at a March 11-14 international AQS show in Lancaster.
Hall, a winner of two blue ribbons from local shows, said the selection process for the AQS shows is very difficult, but after receiving encouragement from fellow local quilters, she decided to submit her first work to the show.

Geraldine Helen Willow

Geraldine Helen Willow, 94, of Rose Street, Johnsonburg, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 13, 1920 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Frederic Marshall and Clara Bell (Zwald) Enterline.
On Sept. 16, 1939 in Ridgway, she married Chester LeRoy Willow. He preceded her in death March 12, 2003.
She was a graduate of Ridgway Area High School Class of 1939 and was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Johnsonburg, a lifetime member of Central Hose Company Auxiliary and a “Worthy Matron” of the Order of Eastern Star.

Alvera Dezanet

Alvera Dezanet, 101, of Caledonia, and recently of Silver Creek Terrace and Elk Haven Nursing Home, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born Dec. 4, 1913 in Byrnedale, daughter of the late Angelo and Giovanna (Trojan) Dezanet.
She worked at Sylvania of Emporium for 47 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1975. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Force.
