Ridgway boys golf wins on Senior Night

Ridgway boys golf won 187-233 over St. Marys this afternoon as the Elkers honored their seniors.
Seniors TJ Schlimm, Josh Roselli, Mike Sorge, Nate Burgeson and Austin Amacher were honored after the match by the program.

A three-match losing streak came to an end for Ridgway boys soccer as the Elkers defeated Coudersport 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
“I don’t know what kind of slump they were in but if they played that way against St. Marys and Port Allegany, it wouldn’t have been an issue,” Ridgway coach Todd Voss said. “I don’t know why. I gave them a day off this weekend. I said, ‘Guys, get your head together.’ We had a hard practice Monday and they responded.”

Mistakes compound Ramettes in 3-0 loss

JOHNSONBURG – Repeated mistakes confounded the Johnsonburg Ramettes as the visiting Curwensville Lady Tide rallied to win close sets in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 26-24) victory Tuesday night in the Paper City.
After retaining the edge the entire set for a 25-14 win in game one, the Lady Tide rallied back to win the second and third games by two points each; the visitors closed out the last game with a 13-3 run to take the match.

Ridgway cross country hosts Bradford, honors Guyer

Ridgway cross country hosts Bradford Monday afternoon and also honored the team's only senior, Rachel Guyer.
Guyer was the girls race winner with a listed time of 20:46. In the boys race, Jake Mercer finished third with a time of 19:09 and Luke Guyer was fifth had a time of 19:23.

The Elkers won the District 9 Class AA boys golf team championship during the first round of the District 9 boys golf championships held Monday at Punxsutawney Country Club.

Ridgway edges Kane in final minute, moves to 5-0

With two equally-matched and undefeated teams facing off, it was only fitting one play and less than one yard would decide the winner.
Ridgway stopped a John English run on a two-point conversion with 41 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Elkers a 21-20 win over the Kane Wolves Friday night at Memorial Field in Ridgway in the AML South opener for both teams.

Ridgway opens play in the AML South at home this year as the 4-0 Elkers host the also undefeated Kane Wolves at 7 p.m. tonight at Memorial Field in Ridgway.
"There's a lot of excitement," Ridgway coach Mark Heindl said. "Both teams are 4-0 and opening up South play. What a better opponent than a Kane team that has a 17-game AML (regular-season) winning streak and an 18-game overall regular-season winning streak. We'll be excited."

Lady Crusaders defeat Johnsonburg Ramettes, 3-0

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team defeated county rival Johnsonburg in straight sets on Tuesday night in a match played at the ECCHS gymnasium. Elk won the first set 25-6, the second set 25-17, and the third set 25-11.
“I thought we controlled the match pretty well,” said ECC head coach Diane Gies. “We didn’t have too many unforced errors, which was a good thing. Those are things that we need to continue to improve on keeping under control.”
