Brookville Raiders roll past Crusaders 52-42

The Elk County Catholic Crusader basketball team was handed a 52-42 loss by the Brookville Raiders on Tuesday evening in a game played at ECCHS.
The Crusaders held a 7-4 lead after the first quarter. Brookville took over in the second quarter, outscoring ECC 15-6 to take a 19-13 lead at the half. The Crusaders closed the advantage slightly in the third quarter, outscoring the Raiders 18-15 to make the score 34-31 headed into the final period of play before Brookville put the game away with a strong fourth quarter.

Lady Crusaders improve to 17-2 with 50-31 win over Brookville

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team improved to 17-2 on the season with a 50-31 victory over the Brookville Lady Raiders Monday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders were able to force 15 Brookville turnovers in the first 16 minutes of play to open a 25-9 halftime lead. Elk outscored Brookville 13-6 in the first period. The Lady Crusaders outscored the Lady Raiders 25-22 in the second half.
“I thought we played pretty well during the course of the game,” said ECCHS coach Ken Pistner. “We played real well defensively.”

Brookville wins Class AA team wrestling championship

DuBOIS – Ridgway wrestling lost 36-33 to Brookville in the District 9 team duals championships match Saturday afternoon at DuBois Area High School.
Brookville won seven of the 11 matches wrestled on the mat and eight of the 14 weight classes. The win serves as a redemption for Brookville who suffered a bitter defeat at the hands of the Elkers in the same spot one year ago.

Matheson has career night as Ridgway blows out Sheffield

Sheffield scored 44 points in Friday night's game.
Ridgway point guard Eric Matheson had almost as many by himself.
Matheson scored a career-high 38 points as the Elkers won 76-44 over Sheffield.
"Some nights you just feel like everything's going in," Matheson said. "This was one of those nights. It didn't matter where I was on the court, it just felt like it was going in."
Matheson hit seven 3-pointers on the game and started quickly with 15 first-quarter points and four treys in the first eight minutes.

Fast start, late baskets give Ramettes victory

JOHNSONBURG – The Ramettes regrouped Friday for a 54-31 win against visiting Curwensville as District 9 teams make their final push for the playoffs in the next two weeks.
Backed by a 15-point performance from junior Brittany Watts and 14 points from sophomore Chelsea Benson, Johnsonburg stretched their record to 11-7 with four games remaining on the schedule.
The latest victory, however, was not pretty.

Ridgway wrestling co-captains reflect on Gerber's last home match

As Ridgway wrestling enters the District 9 team duals this Saturday, Ridgway's co-captains reflect on head coach Gary Gerber's last home match which took place Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
The trio of co-captains have a cavalcade of accomplishments within the Ridgway wrestling program. Senior Corey Bush is a 2-time district champion, 3-time regional qualifier, 2010 regional champion and 2-time state placewinner. Bush compared his time with the program to a roller coaster ride without many of the valleys.

Rams continue streak with 68-43 win over DCC

JOHNSONBURG – The Rams continued their winning ways Wednesday night with a 68-43 victory over visiting DuBois Central Catholic.
Johnsonburg was propelled to the win by sophomores Cameron Grumley and Cole Peterson, who led the way with 16 and 15 points, respectively. They were complemented by junior Frank Kocjancic's 12 points and a 10-point night from senior Michael Shuey. Junior Quinn Luhr also added nine points, including two 3-pointers.

Lady Wolves down Lady Elkers, 59-35

Kane girls basketball picked up a 59-35 road victory over Ridgway Wednesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
The Lady Wolves (14-5) were led by a trio of double-digit scorers. Kaila Jamerson led Kane with 19 points while Audrey Perry finished with 17. Nerissa Rich finished with 14 points, eight in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Elkers (0-18) hung around with the Lady Wolves for the first three quarters as Kane held a 40-30 lead entering the final eight minutes.
Christine Schauer hit a field goal early in the quarter to cut the margin to eight.

Brookville edges Ridgway in Gerber's final home match

Ridgway wrestling head coach Gary Gerber may not have come out on the winning side but the presence of Elker alumni, family and friends still made Tuesday night a special night for the retiring coach.
Brookville won the dual 32-30 over the Elkers at Ridgway Area High School as Gerber coached in front of the home fans for a final time.

Ridgway finishes unbeaten in AML South

Ridgway boys basketball used a second-quarter run to break a tie after eight minutes as the Elkers went on to a 53-40 win over Brockway Monday night at Ridgway Area High School.
The win puts Ridgway at 16-0 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the AML South, winning the division. The win also means DuBois Central Catholic will finish as the division runner-up. DCC went into Monday with a 3-2 AML South record.
