Ridgway downs rival Johnsonburg

After a strong opening kickoff, Ridgway football never looked back.
The Elkers scored on its first possession and never trailed in a 39-0 victory over Johnsonburg Friday night at Memorial Field in Ridgway.
"It's a great feeling. I couldn't be any more happier for our players," Ridgway coach Mark Heindl said. "All 24 that dressed earned this award. It's because of them that we brought that trophy back. What a great effort in all three phases of the game, offensively, defensively and special teams. Our kids played their hearts out and you saw it."

Crusaders down Kane

KANE – With 36 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Kane was down 13-6 and was facing fourth and long from about the 26-yard-line. With a chance to tie the game, quarterback Sean Jordan put nice pass into the endzone; however, Elk Catholic's Pat Brennen was the player on the receiving end of that pass, sealing the Crusader victor with the interception.

Lady Elkers double up Lady Tide

At the end of the game, Ridgway had the win but the Lady Elkers faced some adversity on the way there.
Ridgway defeated Port Allegany 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in a matchup after playing without two defensive starters for over 20 minutes in the first half.
Ridgway defenders Amanda Maddalena and Megan MacDonald had to leave the game within seconds of each other in the first half. Ridgway head coach Greg Maddalena said the team really stepped up when faced with a tough situation.

ECC qualifies girls golfer for regionals

KANE – Two Ridgway girls golfers competed at the Girls Golf District Championships held Tuesday at the Kane Country Club.
Ridgway senior Brittanei Neubert finished 18th with a score of 120 for the 18 holes. Fellow senior Selena Scarnati was 22nd with a 140.
The top three finishers qualify for regionals on Oct. 18 at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville.
Samantha Dinger of Redbank Valley is the district champion with an 84. Kristy Hanes of Elk County Catholic and Larissa Roberts of Union tied for second with 87 and are both regional qualifiers.

Lady Crusaders tie with Lady Tide

KERSEY – It was another nail-biting outing for the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders varsity soccer team Monday afternoon as ECC tied the unbeaten Curwensville Lady Tide 2-2 in a game played at Angela Huey Field.
The game was the fourth overtime contest this season for the Lady Crusaders. ECC is 1-1-2 in the extra time games.
Sister pairs were the story during the match. Elk Catholic scored first with 30:33 left to play in the first half. Senior Abbi Petrosky got the goal while her sister, freshman Erin Petrosky, had the assist.

Pair of Rams golfers advance to regionals

BRADFORD – Despite the cold and wet weather over the weekend, the District 9 Boys Golf Championship was held at Pine Acres Country Club in Bradford on Saturday. Six area golfers qualified for the PIAA Western Regional Tournament, which will be held at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Ridgway loses to Brockway, 30-22

BROCKWAY – Touchdowns before and after halftime provided a major momentum shift for the Brockway Rovers to a 30-22 win over Ridgway Friday night at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway.

Rams fall to ECC

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Crusaders picked up a 34-0 Homecoming victory over the Johnsonburg Rams on Friday evening in a game played at Dutch Country Stadium in St. Marys.
"It was a good team effort and a good Homecoming win," said ECC coach Travis Skrzypek. "This was a trap game. We had a nice game last week coming into this one. It was hard keeping their (the team's) focus a little bit."

Lady Elkers edge ECC

Ridgway girls soccer used a late goal to propel the Lady Elkers to a 3-2 victory over Elk County Catholic Thursday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
“ECC played an awesome game,” Ridgway coach Greg Maddalena said. “They’re a different team from the last time we played them. They had a great game plan for us. I won’t take anything away from ECC, they’re a great program, with a great coaching staff. They were ready for us. Our girls always step up to that challenge. They always raise their level of play, they know what they can do and then we’re on the winning side.”

Ramettes use early comeback to drop Lady Chucks

JOHNSONBURG – The Ramettes were lackadaisical in the first set Thursday night but regrouped in time for a three-set win (25-22, 25-22, 25-21) over visiting Punxsutawney.
Johnsonburg was down by as much as eight points in the first set at 16-8 before making a turnaround to take control of the opening stanza. A kill from Chelsea Benson cut the lead to 18-15 and a Katie Galsick kill tied it at 18-all. The teams traded points to a 22-21 Punxsy lead before the Ramettes showed up.
