Rams honor soccer team with banquet

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg soccer celebrated its season with a banquet at Johnsonburg Area Elementary School Sunday afternoon.
The Rams finished with a 2-16 record this season, scoring 20 goals and allowing 66 goals. The goals allowed total ended up being 10 less than last season.
Kyle Sheldon led the Rams with 11 goals this season. Luke Shreffler had four and Caleb Hefright had two. Zebb Zilcosky, Tommy Imbrogno and Devon Zilcoski each had one. Sheldon has 24 career goals and head coach Lance Rezmerski said that mark would be good for a mark of fourth place.

Elkers close out season with victory over Clarion-Limestone

STRATTANVILLE – The Ridgway football team will go out on a winning note after a 35-0 victory over Clarion-Limestone Friday night at Clarion-Limestone High School.
The Elkers (6-4) built a 28-0 lead at halftime as the defense forced six turnovers from the Clarion-Limestone offense.
"The kids knew what was at stake here," Ridgway coach Mark Heindl said. "They wanted that winning record going in at 6-4 to end the year. These seniors went out in their final games and not only did they go 6-4 but they went out on a win and paved the way for the younger guys coming up through."

Rams fall to Keystone

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Rams (0-10) were locked in a heated battle late in the second quarter Friday night against visiting Keystone (3-7) before a string of miscues sent the Rams reeling in a 35-6 loss.
Down 7-0, Johnsonburg came up with a huge fumble recovery after a turnover on downs to set up shop at the Keystone 3-yard line late in the first half.

Elkers move on to Final Four

COUDERSPORT – After a nervous start, Ridgway volleyball had an exhilarating finish to earn a trip to the District Final Four.
Ridgway won 3-1 (14-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23) over Coudersport in the District 9 Class A volleyball quarterfinals Thursday night at Coudersport High School to become one of the last four teams remaining in the district.
The Lady Elkers now will play Saturday in the Final Four at St. Marys Area High School in pool play. Port Allegany, Clarion and A-C Valley are the other three teams to join the Lady Elkers.

No. 1 seed Port Allegany ousts Johnsonburg, 3-0

PORT ALLEGANY – Johnsonburg made things interesting with a close first set but were never able to fully regroup in a 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-20) loss Thursday night at No. 1 seed Port Allegany.
“We didn’t really pass well but I thought we were really one hit away from winning that first game but then the second game, our composure went away a little bit,” said Johnsonburg head varsity volleyball coach Bill Shuey. “You can’t win this game if you can’t pass the ball.
“I don’t think Port Allegany did anything differently to us, I just think we made a few mistakes.”

Crusaders fall to Clarion

CLARION – The Clarion Area Lady Bobcat volleyball team eliminated the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders from the District 9-A volleyball tournament Thursday night in a match played at the Clarion Area High School.
Clarion won the first set 25-21, took the second set 25-13 and the third set 25-19.
“We played well at times in the first and third sets,” said ECCHS coach Diane Gies. “We’re an inexperienced team playing well at this time of the year against a ranked opponent.

Ramettes advance to second round of volleyball playoffs

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg volleyball opened the District 9 Class A volleyball playoffs with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-18) victory over Cameron County in the first round Tuesday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.

Crusaders advance

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders advanced to the quarterfinals of the District 9 Class A volleyball tournament with a 3-0 victory over the Keystone Lady Panthers last night at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders won the first set 25-11. They took the second set 25-15 and won the third set 25-16.

Schreiber qualifies for state cross country meet

The snowy weather and muddy conditions on Saturday in Ridgway did little to slow down the Elk County Catholic High School girls’ and boys’ cross country squads in the District 9 Cross Country Championships held at the Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway. The girls’ team won their 11th consecutive AA team title by four points over Northern Potter, while the boys’ team finished second after being edged by Oswayo Valley by one point. Both squads will advance to compete in the state meet next weekend in Hershey.

Elkers host banquet

Ridgway boys golf celebrated the season with a banquet Sunday night at Laurel Mill Golf Club.
"As we get together to close out the season, as the head coach I can only hope that it was an enjoyable experience for everybody involved," Ridgway boys golf head coach Dave Zawatski said. "Records, scores and streaks which will soon be forgotten aside, I learned long ago that it is the memories of the 'journey' that will always be cherished. When I look back on the season down the road, I will most definitely have a ton of good memories."
