ST. MARYS – With over 40 vendors slated to attend the 2012 Business Expo, organizers are encouraging the public to stop out at the event taking place Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Red Fern in St. Marys from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There will be representatives of businesses including contractors, energy representatives, educational, home-based businesses, manufacturing, insurance and healthcare, along with many more.
Together, The River 98.9 radio station and the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce have paired up to sponsor the event as in years past.
"The expo provides businesses an opportunity to showcase their products and make the community aware of what they offer," said Paula Weyant, events and marketing coordinator at The River 98.9.
According to Weyant, there is space available for two more vendors.
Many vendors will be selling their items, offering taste testings, taking orders for items and setting up appointments.
Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day and winners need not be present to win. The event is free and open to the public.
"Just for walking through the door you can get registered to win an Apple iPad," Weyant added.
Elk Regional Health Center (ERHC) is also hosting its Patient Appreciation Day celebration during the expo. The event is taking place in the back room of the Red Fern and includes a variety of free screenings such as blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol tests, as well as pulse ox, heart rate, heel bone density scans, hand massages and grip strength tests designed to test the strength of muscles in the hands and forearms. Free information about preventative health services, job openings and Elk Regional's Rehabilitation Services and Generations Unit will also be available.
In addition, Community Nurses, Inc., an affiliate of ERHC, will offer information about advance health directives and its telehealth services.
“It’s important to us to offer easy access to free health screenings and information about the services available in our community,” said Charlotte Floravit, ERHC director of public relations. “The Business Expo is the perfect place to do it. We had a great turnout last year and we’re looking forward to another great event this year.”
Dr. K.C. Joseph, a general surgeon at ERHC, will provide free mole checks from 11 a.m. to noon. The checks are to determine whether suspicious moles are benign or whether they signal possible melanoma.
Paulette Schreiber, CRNP and women's health provider, will offer free information designed to help smokers break their habit and will answer questions about heel bone density scans.
Participants can also learn about ERHC's mammograms, physical and occupational therapy services, preventative health services and nutrition and healthy eating tips.
Additional information on the expo is available on The River's website at www.theriver989.com or at www.stmaryschamber.org.
