Dutch tennis team defeats Elk Catholic 8-1 Friday

ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with an 8-1 victory over the Elk County Catholic Crusaders Friday afternoon in a match played at the SMAHS courts.
At first singles, Dutchman Nathan Hansen defeated Shane Mancuso 6-0, 6-3.
At second singles, SMA’s Brandon Romain defeated Ben Wortman 6-1, 6-0.
Dutchman Keith Meyer won his match 6-0, 6-0 over Nate Dattoli at third singles.
At fourth singles, Dutchman Dylan Wiesner defeated Scot Reichard 6-0, 6-2.
Thomas Murmann of the Dutch downed Jon Leuschel 6-3, 6-0 at fifth singles.
“Our singles players played strong matches today. It was nice to see them finally able to play an outdoor match against a District 9 team,” said St. Marys coach Sue Lepovetsky.
At first doubles, Elk’s Shane Mancuso and Ben Wortman defeated Brandon Orr and Michael Fox 8-3.
At second doubles, Evan Lepovetsky and Michael Brennen of the Dutch won in a close match 8-6 over Scott Krellner and Darren Simons.
SMA’s Dalton Gennocro and Eric Uhl, playing in his first varsity match, won 8-5 over Nate Dattoli and Tyler Herzing.
At fourth doubles, Jarrod Lipsey and Gary Fledderman of the Dutch came back from being down 0-4 to win 8-6 over Scott Reichard and Kyler Breakey.
“It was nice to see the younger players play well in their doubles matches today,” said Lepovetsky. “It was nice that the weather finally cooperated today so we were able to play this match.”
Elk Catholic, now 1-2 on the season, will host DuBois Area on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Benzinger Park.
