Elk County Fair kicks off

The 2011 Elk County Fair kicked off Tuesday evening with the Opening Ceremonies which were attended by State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Elk/Clearfield), Elk County Commissioners, various township supervisors and fair board personnel and volunteers. Next was the crowning of the Elk County Fair queen, junior queen and princess. This year there were 10 princess candidates, 15 junior queen candidates and five queen candidates. Shelby Zomcik, 18, of Kersey was crowned the 2011 Elk County Fair Queen while Nicole Holland, 13, was named the junior queen and Makenzie Gillen, 10, of Kersey was awarded the princess title. Runners up included Mary Rossman, 16, of Weedville for queen, Elle McGowan, 13, of St. Marys for junior queen and Carissa Vavala, 10, of St. Marys for princess. The Elk County Fair is taking place this week and ends on Saturday. It opens at 4 p.m. daily and is being held at the fairgrounds in Fox Township.
