Elkers clinch playoff spot

November 2, 2013

Ryan Geyer sacks St. Joseph's Catholic Academy quarterback Phillip Fenstermacker during a 13-0 win Friday night.

Ridgway football has had the motto of "One Team" since the start of this season with the new co-op between Ridgway and Johnsonburg.
Now that one team has clinched one of eight Class A playoff berths.
The Elkers defeated St. Joseph's Catholic Academy 13-0 Friday night at Memorial Field in Ridgway to seal Ridgway's first playoff berth since the 2006 season.
"It's a great thing for our kids," Ridgway coach Mark Heindl said. "The kids have come so far. Who thought back in April when the two teams combined as one, how far they have come as one unit. They came in from Ridgway and Johnsonburg and from the first practice they were one team. They carried that motto throughout the year, now we're carrying that motto in to the playoffs."
