Elkers down ECC in front of overflow crowd

January 7, 2013

Clayton Housler of Elk County Catholic looks to pass out of a double team from Ridgway of Tony Leithner (13) and Jesse Reynolds (4) during a 48-41 win for the Elkers over the Crusaders. Reynolds had 11 points and Leithner finished with nine for Ridgway.

Ridgway boys basketball used a strong third quarter to overtake the Elk County Catholic Crusaders 48-41 Saturday night in front of an overflow crowd at Ridgway Area High School.
Although the Crusaders kept within striking distance of Ridgway throughout the game, ECC was unable to pull even with Ridgway after the first quarter.
"Ridgway has an excellent team," Elk County Catholic coach Aaron Straub said. "They're extremely well-coached. They're extremely talented. They are awfully difficult to beat. We look forward to the next opportunity to play them."
ECC had scored eight straight points between the first half and the end of the second half to get within one at 23-22 near the 6:20 mark of the third quarter. Ridgway would extend the lead back to six after a 3-pointer from Josh Roselli and a basket from Elker senior guard JoJo Jaques. Ridgway coach Anthony Allegretto said he thought Jaques' hoop with a big moment in the game.
"I thought JoJo's basket was a big play," Allegretto said. "There were a lot of big plays that helped us turn the tide."
