Gas line rupture interrupts service in Ridgway

January 25, 2014

Photo by Joseph Bell – This National Fuel truck was one of many parked alongside North Broad Street in Ridgway as crews worked to restore natural gas service to area homes.

Roughly 260 homes on North Broad Street to the Beaver development along state Route 219 north toward Johnsonburg were without no natural gas for several hours Friday.
Earlier in the day, a gas line was reportedly struck by a contractor operating a bulldozer.
"A large gas line was struck up behind the high school [Ridgway Area High School] and the gas company shut that gas off so it's no longer a hazard, but it will be several hours until they're able to completely repair the line, and then start flowing gas again to the customers," said Mike McAllister, director for emergency management in Elk County.
