Grocery store opens for business

October 5, 2011

Photo by Gian DeLoia – The West End Grocery located at 608 Oak St. in Ridgway is open for business.

After five years of vacancy, Owners Greg and Cara Lea Moore have preserved a part of the town's history by opening the West End Grocery at 608 Oak Street in Ridgway.
A wooden beam inside the store separates a section of the original building that was built in 1915 from an addition that was constructed in 1971.
"The building was built for a grocery store and it has been a grocery store since then, almost 100 years," Greg said. "Whenever you leave you will see a cement slab outside, which are the steps into the old building."
The West End Grocery is a one-stop shop for all of your basic grocery needs that also offers a few features unique to the area.
If in the mood for an ice cream cone, the store offers a full line of ice cream at their hand-dipped station.
An eight-foot freezer stores a wide variety of ice cream bars and desserts.
The West End Grocery, formerly West End Superette, is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
