Helen J. Metro, 93, of Hartley Manor Assisted Living Community, 10171 Johnny Cake Ridge Rd., Concord, Ohio, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 20, 2010 at Tri-Point Medical Center in Concord Township, Ohio following a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 26, 1917 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Nicholas and Julia Hartz Lazore. On Nov. 4, 1944, in Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg she married John Metro, who preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1982.
She resided at Hartley Manor for two years, in Ohio for 11 years and is formerly of Webster, N.Y., Ridgway and Johnsonburg. She graduated from Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1935.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Willoughby, Ohio; was employed by Citco Corp. in Rochester, N.Y. for 20 years, retiring in 1979; and had also been employed by the Pa. State Public Health Nursing Department in Ridgway for 12 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis, Mrs. Dr. Edward Crum, of Concord, Ohio; two grandchildren, Andrew Crum and his wife Jennifer, and Emily Crum; and four great- grandchildren, Bradly, Isabela, Julia and Rayna Crum. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Steve, Michael, John, Joseph and Andrew Lazore.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen J. Metro will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Thursday morning from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
