James Berton Frederick

James Berton Frederick, 80, of McCullough Avenue, Brockway, died Saturday, Feb. 1 at his residence.
Born July 31, 1933 in Smicksburg, he was the son of the late Willis and Esther S. Davis Frederick. He was married to Betty Marie Raybuck and she died in 1988. He then married JoAnna M. Miller and she survives.
James was protestant by faith. He enjoyed gardening and hunting. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran where he served on the U.S.S. Wasp. Retired, James worked as a laborer/foreman in multiple manufacturing facilities over the years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, Chuck of Ridgway, Ken of Brockway and Tom, also a Ridgway resident; one brother, Wendall (Shirley) Frederick of Smicksburg; and a stepdaughter, Chris Latcovich of Ridgway. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a stepmother, Grace Umbaugh Frederick; a brother, Warren “Slim” Frederick; a sister, Betty Good; and a niece, Corrina.
A funeral service for James Berton Frederick will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 12 p.m. at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway with Rev. Tom Henretty officiating.
Friends may call on Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. Millitary honors will be accorded by Parson-Marnatti Post #95 of the American Legion Wednesday following the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens at Ridgeway. Memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
