ST. MARYS – Ridgway ended 2011 with a win in the Elk County Holiday Tournament over Johnsonburg.
Johnsonburg returned the favor to end 2012.
The Rams scored the final 13 points in the fourth quarter to take a 36-23 win over Ridgway in the championship game of the tournament Saturday night at St. Marys Area High School.
It's Johnsonburg's second tournament title in four years, the Rams also won the county title in 2009.
"It feels good for the kids I'm sure," Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said. "I feel very proud that I was able to be a part of this."
Ridgway had tied up the score at 23 with the Rams after a Jesse Reynolds trey with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter. Johnsonburg would ultimately take the lead for good as Rams guard Cole Peterson would score a layup in transition for a 25-23 Johnsonburg lead with 6:10 remaining. Around a minute later, Frank Kocjancic would convert a 3-point play for Johnsonburg to extend the lead to five at 28-23 with 5:16 left.
