Joseph “Moon” Asalone

Joseph “Moon” Asalone, 85, of Bennetts Valley Highway, Weedville, died Friday, July 18, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home after a brief illness.
He was born July 9, 1929 in Caledonia, son of the late Joseph M. and Emma (Bonfardine) Asalone.
On May 29, 1949, he married Catherine Lease in St. Joseph Church. She preceded him in death May 30, 2010.
He retired from Osram-Sylvania in 1991. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Master Sergeant in the 28th Infantry Division. He was a charter member of Valley Legion Post 978 where he served terms as Post Commander.
He was a big Pittsburgh Pirate and Penn State football fan. He also had many people who called him their friend.
He is survived by two sons, Terry and his wife Cathy of Anderson, S.C. and by Jim and his wife Debbie of St. Marys.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jenny and her husband Art Tompkins of Easley S.C., Rick Asalone and his wife Kimberley of Simpsonville, S.C., Stephanie Asalone of Salt Lake City, Utah, Marty Asalone of Baldwin, N.Y.; two step-grandchildren, Barbara Burnley of Brandon, S.D. and Pam and her husband Russ Yeager of Kersey; and also five great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren whom he adored.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Dick, on April 9, 2012. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph “Moon” Asalone will be held on Saturday July 26, 2014 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church of Force with Reverend  Father William Sutherland, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
Friends and family may call at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, 12045 Bennetts Valley Hwy., Penfield from 5-8 p.m. on Friday July 25 and again on Saturday from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
Memorial honors will be accorded by the Valley Legion Post 978 Burial Detail.
Memorial donations can be made the donor’s choice.
