Josephine Amacher White

Josephine Amacher White, 86, of Grant Road, Ridgway, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, surrounded by her family at home following a short illness.
She was born Feb. 27, 1926 in New York City, daughter of the late Pancrazio and Henriette Motte Papale.
She married Malcolm Earl Amacher on Sept. 29, 1946 at Holy Cross Rectory in New York City.
She retired from Alltel Corp. after many years of service. She had been an active volunteer and former board member of the Elk County Historical Society. She also served on the Ridgway Township Municipal Authority. Following retirement, she spent many years traveling the world with friends and family.
She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie O’Connell (Frank) of Ridgway, and Roberta Hollabaugh (Don) of Franklin; a son, Christopher Amacher (Margaret) of Erie; seven grandchildren, Danielle Fye (Ryan) of Shippenville, Amanda Harriger (Cliff) of East Brady, Siobhan O’Connell of Erie, Jacqueline Amacher of Cleveland, Ohio, Nicole Amacher of Erie, Jeffrey Amacher of Erie, and Matthew Amacher (Brenda) of Erie; and five great-grandchildren, Emmet, Olivia and Samuel Fye, and Eva and Vincent Harriger. She is also survived by a brother, Guy Papale of California; and by a sister, Louise Faulkner of Ridgway.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, M.E. Amacher and H. Robert White; and by a son, Stephen Amacher.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Josephine Amacher White will be celebrated at St. Leo’s Catholic Church on Monday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Fr. Brian Vossler, pastor. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home on, Sunday Jan. 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Elk County Historical Society, 109 Center St., Ridgway, PA 15853; or to Community Nurses Inc., Hospice, 757 Johnsonburg Rd., St. Marys, PA 15857.
