Lady Crusaders edge Lady Dutch for jv tournament title

Photo by Becky Polaski – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders junior varsity squad edged the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch 31-26 on Wednesday evening to claim the ECCHS Girls Junior Varsity Basketball Tournament championship.

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders edged the Lady Dutch 31-26 in the title game of the ECCHS Girls Junior Varsity Basketball Tournament at ECCHS on Wednesday evening.
In the consolation game, the Johnsonburg Lady Rams defeated the Ridgway Lady Elkers 39-16.
Championship game
The first period of play saw the score knotted up at 7-all; however, the Lady Dutch outscored the Lady Crusaders 8-6 in the second quarter to take a slim 15-13 halftime lead.
Elk Catholic used a strong third quarter to take back the lead, outscoring St. Marys Area 10-2 to take a 23-17 advantage into the final period of play. The Lady Dutch were able to outscore the Lady Crusaders 9-8 in the final quarter, but Elk Catholic held on to take the title with the 31-26 win.
