Lady Crusaders shut out Brockway Lady Rovers, 4-0
ST. MARYS – The Lady Crusaders picked up their 11th win of the season on Tuesday afternoon at Benzinger Park as they defeated the visiting Brockway Lady Rovers by a 4-0 score. Taylor Schlimm pitched a one-hit shutout for the Lady Crusaders.Schlimm faced only 24 batters in the game as she recorded five strikeouts while walking none. The only hit against Schlimm was a third-inning single. The other two girls who reached base against Schlimm got on on infield errors.A. Wright took the loss for the Lady Rovers as she gave up four runs on six hits, struck out one and walked three."The girls played a very good ball game today," said assistant coach Digger O'Dell of the Lady Crusaders. "Our defense was excellent, we did have a couple of hiccups but recovered to prevent any damage."Offensively we hit the ball when we had to. Jessie Ginther and Jenny Cappiello both came up with big triples. Cappiello's triple scored our first run, then Ginther drove in three with her triple to put the icing on the cake for us."Taylor Schlimm was in command on the mound again today as she handcuffed the Brockway hitters. We have two big games coming up on Wednesday at Kane and Thursday at Johnsonburg. and will have to be at our best once again."Jessie Ginther led the Lady Crusaders in hitting on Tuesday with a three-run triple and two singles, while Jenny Cappiello had a run-scoring triple. Adding singles for the Lady Crusaders were Lyndsey Trumbull and Kristy Hanes.S. Guilyard had the only hit for the Brockway girls, a single.The Brockway girls managed a base runner in the second inning, third inning and seventh inning, but were unable to advance past first base.The Lady Crusaders scored a run in the first inning when Ginther singled and scored on Cappiello's triple to make it 1-0.Elk went scoreless the next two innings, but in the fourth they scored three times. Kristy Hanes reached first on an error, then Michelle Imbrogno and Torie Gradizzi drew walks to load the bases with one out. Hannah McGowan reached first on a fielder's choice as Julia Scacchitti (who was running for Hanes) was forced out at home. With two outs and the bases loaded, Ginther ripped a triple to center field, scoring all three runners and giving Elk a 4-0 lead.The score remained at 4-0 as neither club was able to score in the closing innings.The Lady Crusaders are now 11-3 on the season and will be in action this afternoon at Kane as they take on the Lady Wolves at 4:15 p.m.The Lady Crusaders will also be in action on Thursday afternoon as they travel to Johnsonburg for a 4:15 p.m. game with the Ramettes.
