Marie E. Lewis, 91, a resident of Pinecrest Manor, and formerly of Weedville and 101 N. Mill Street, Ridgway, died on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
She was born on March 4, 1921 in Johnsonburg, a daughter of the late Hilary and Ethel McClintick Lewis.
Marie was a lifelong resident of Elk County and had attended Weedville Wesleyan Church in her younger years and then had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ridgway.Â She worked for many years in the kitchen at Koch's Restaurant.Â She enjoyed embroidery, cooking and drawing.Â She was an avid bird watcher and greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are a son, Dale Lewis and his wife Lori, James City; a daughter, Berniece Jarbeck and her companion Ray Griech, Ridgway; seven grandchildren, Renee, Tracy, Brenda, Rick, Kelly, Megan and Angela; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilbur "Shorty" Lewis and his wife Shirley, Weedville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a twin brother at birth, Charles; four brothers, Bernard, Ralph, Gerald "Jake" and Elden Lewis; two sisters, Louise Schrubb and Eleanor Sherwood; and twin siblings at birth, Mary and Merlin.
Funeral Services for Marie E. Lewis will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, 136 Center St., Ridgway, on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Roger Peterson, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, ofï¬ciating.
Visitation will be at the Thompson Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 2-5 p.m.
Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Weedville.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Salvation Army or to Pinecrest Manor.
