Marie S. Carlson

Marie S. Carlson, 92, of 356 Toby Rd., Kersey died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
She was born June 4, 1918 in Horton Township, daughter of the late Albert and Daisy (Moyer) Schreiber.
On Aug. 30, 1967, she married Charles R. Carlson, who survives.
She had resided in the Kersey area for most of her life and was a member of the Toby United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities. She was the pianist and organist, a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years, and held many offices on the Church Council. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women. She encouraged many young people to develop their talents and abilities. She was a 1936 graduate of Kersey High School. She had worked at Sylvania in Emporium and Peoples Savings and Loan in Ridgway for 41 years before her retirement.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Bernice Mae Murnaghan and her husband William of Ridgway; a brother, Dewayne Johnson and his wife Ardith of Kersey; two nieces, Susan Carnes and her husband John of White Plains, Md. and Sarah Murnaghan of Ridgway; and three nephews, Kenneth Johnson and his wife Carol of Brookville, Craig Johnson and his wife Jennifer of State College and Douglas Johnson and his wife Christine of Mt. Pleasant.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Victor C. Johnson; a stepsister, Doretha (Clifton) Lilja; a stepbrother, Richard (Enid) Johnson; and a nephew, Bryan L. Johnson.
Funeral and Committal Services for Marie S. Carlson will be held at the Toby United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Joni Williams, pastor of the Toby United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow at Ridge Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home, 136 Center St., Ridgway, on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m.
