One dead in Mersen explosion

ST. MARYS – Officials on Thursday confirmed the death of a St. Marys Mersen USA employee after an industrial explosion in the morning.
Noah Nichelson, St. Marys Mersen USA general manager said in a statement that one employee was killed and two were injured following “an equipment related accident” at the plant.
Emergency dispatchers confirmed a call went out shortly after 9 a.m. to Mersen USA in St. Marys, located at 1032 Trout Run Rd.
Initial reports indicated two were injured and a helicopter was requested to the scene. Elk Company 1 [Crystal Fire Department] responded to the scene along with St. Marys Ambulance.
