Patsy (Pat) Sette, age 83, of Erie, died Thursday evening, Aug. 1, 2013 at the Erie VA Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Lockport, N.Y., son of the late Frank and Concettina (Curato) Sette. Patsy is the husband of Anne Marie Piccirillo, whom he married on Feb. 15, 1958 at St. Leo Catholic Church in Ridgway.
He was a graduate of St. Leo High School, the Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, Minn., the American College of Technology in Chicago, Ill., with an A.D. in Cereal Chemistry, and Wilson School of Cake Decorating in Chicago, Ill.
Patsy was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving active duty during the Korean War with the 2nd C.M.L. Motor Battalion. He received the Combat Infantry Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Distinguished Citation Korean Service Medal, a Bronze Star for personal courage and commitment in a combat zone, and the Good Conduct Medal. Patsy also served eight years in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Erie, the St. Leo's Alumni Association, Dunwoody College Alumni Association, and the Dunwoody Century Club.
Patsy was the owner of an Italian bakery that specialized in Italian bread and rolls. He was also employed at the Old Tyme Bakery in Ridgway, Warren Baking Co., in Warren, and Firch's Bakery in Erie.
Patsy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anne Marie; his niece, Mary Lou Cartwright and her husband Allen, and their daughter Angela of Ridgway; four sisters, Dora Santiso (Toke) of Ridgway, Viola Eckert of St. Marys, Delores Sette of Ridgway, Mary Harrier of Emporium; one brother, Carmen Sette (Magdalena) of Spain; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rose Iorfido; and three brothers, John, Dominic, and Joseph Sette.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Patsy Sette will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Monday, Aug. 5 at 12 p.m. noon with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Detail. Officiating will be Fr. John P. Malthaner, Pastor of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Erie. Burial will follow at St. Leo Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Monday morning from 10-11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Tuition Assistance Fund at St. Luke's School at 421 East 38th St., Erie, Pa. 16504 or to St. Leo's School at 117 Depot St., Ridgway, Pa. 15853.
