JOHNSONBURG – The Ramettes were shorthanded in the second quarter Tuesday night after a skirmish under the net left senior Brittany Watts with a bloody nose but the team proved their resilience as they held on for a 48-33 victory against a much improved Curwensville team.
Johnsonburg had built a commanding 22-9 lead in the second quarter only to watch it unravel down to a five-point cushion before things got back on track. Senior Rhianon Fowler, who paced all scorers with 14 points, dropped in a layup with 57 seconds to go before halftime and after two free throws from Curwensville and a Johnsonburg turnover, the Lady Tide had a chance to make it a one-possession game. Instead, Fowler came up with a steal at half-court and sprinted the rest of the way to put in an uncontested layup at the buzzer for a 32-25 lead at the half.
