Ramettes take pair of wins from Lady Wolves

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Ramettes finished Wednesday with a pair of wins over Kane at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
The Ramettes won 12-5 in the regularly scheduled game and finished a suspended game with a 16-2 win in five innings. The Ramettes led 12-2 coming into the fifth inning and scored four runs in the top of the fifth.
"The two wins helped us, I think our record is at 5-3," Johnsonburg coach Melissa Myers said. "With the weather being so bad and not being able to play, the girls were really looking forward to that."
In the 12-5 win, the Lady Wolves opened with a run in the first inning. Nikki Sluga opened by reaching on an infield single. After Sam Ferranto reached on a Johnsonburg error, Kaila Jamerson singled to left to plate Sluga and put the Lady Wolves up 1-0.
The Ramettes took the lead in the home half of the opening inning. Tommi Wildnauer was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Dani Jo Dwyer grounded out to second base, Wildnauer scored on a Kane throwing error to third to tie the game. Kiana Myers and Justis Myers both walked, they both scored on a Kane infield error to put the lead at 3-1 after the first inning.
"A lot better hitting [last night] than we had against Brockway," coach Myers said. "We have to face them [today]. Hopefully our girls will bring their game with them and we'll hang in there tight with them, they do have an excellent pitcher."
Kane responded with more offense in the second inning. Angie Geer led off with an infield single, Hayley Walters and Kyla Hoag both singled to load the bases. Alyssa Gregg roped a single to plate both Geer and Walters and tie the game at 3-all.
The Ramettes then added a second consecutive 3-run inning in the bottom of the second. Lydia Hefright walked to lead off the inning. After a flyout, Dwyer walked and Kiana Myers singled to plate Hefright. Justis Myers walked and Brittany Watts brought both runners home with a single to put the Ramettes up 6-3.
Kane resumed the run production in the fourth inning. Sluga reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a double from Jamerson to make the margin 6-4.
Dwyer walked to lead off the fourth inning, she would eventually come around for a run on a wild pitch. Justis Myers singled, stole second and moved to third on a groundout before scoring on a wild pitch to make the lead 8-4.
The Ramettes added a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Kassa Kocjancic walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Hefright. Dwyer singled to center and the ball went by the diving outfielder and allowed Dwyer to come all the way around to score and make the lead 10-4 after Kocjancic also scored.
Justis Myers walked to lead off the sixth inning, stole second and moved to third on a fielder's choice. Taylor Harvey grounded out to score another Johnsonburg run. and a sacrifice fly from Paige DeCecchis plated Brittany Watts.
Gregg singled to score Geer in the seventh inning for Kane's fifth run.
Justis Myers scored four times and was 1-for-1 with three walks. Dwyer and Kiana Myers each had two runs scored, Dwyer and Watts each had two RBI.
"That's a big plus for us, if we keep doing that, we'll be right in there with the best of the best," coach Myers said. "We have to have the hitting there. Our defense is always good, our fielders, Tommi and Brittany, they're excellent out in the field. If I wouldn't have had them, I don't know what I'd do. They're excellent fielders and like I said, our defense is really good. The infield is good too but we need to keep batting."
DeCecchis pitched a complete game for the Ramettes and the one inning of the suspended game. She walked three and struck out four in the 12-5 win.
Gregg was 3-for-5 with three RBI. Jamerson had two RBI for the Lady Wolves.
Johnsonburg is scheduled to travel and face Brockway today at 4:15 p.m.
