JOHNSONBURG – It took less than a quarter for Johnsonburg boys basketball to shake off its second loss of the season.
The Rams had a 15-point lead at the end of the first quarter and built the lead further as the game went on in a 68-29 victory over Brockway Friday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
The Rams had a 20-2 lead after six minutes of play.
"We got a quick start, got some easy baskets," Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said. "The kids were feeling it. I don't know what we shot percentage-wise but I think it was pretty good."
The fast start was opened by a Cameron Grumley trey, one of four from beyond the arc from the Johnsonburg junior. Frank Kocjancic and Kyle Sheldon added field goals. After another Johnsonburg hoop, Cole Peterson made a long 2-pointer as the Rams led 11-0 after three minutes.
Kyle Titler would added a field goal with 3:37 left for Brockway to get the Rovers on the board. Grumley added another 3-pointer before Luhr added a hoop for a 16-2 Johnsonburg lead. Sheldon and Grumley added back-to-back 2-pointers as the Rams led 20-2 with two minutes left in the first quarter.
Jake Perrin added a 3-pointer for the Rovers before Luhr and Dausen Crawford of Brockway alternated hoops as Johnsonburg led 22-7 at the end of the first quarter.
"I think on the offensive end we were really hurting," Brockway coach Kurt Becker said. "We didn't move the ball well. We passed it pretty poorly. We have to improve on those things."
