Rendezvous moves to Main Street

Photo by Gian DeLoia – If all goes to plan, the 13th Annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous will be held along Main Street in downtown Ridgway.

Plans are in the works for the 13th Annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous to be held in downtown Ridgway after the Ridgway Borough Council unanimously approved the proposal during their regular meeting.
Main Street manager Michelle Bogacki said, pending PennDOT approval, Main Street will be closed from Feb. 18-25 from Broad to Mill Streets to make room for the popular event.
"It's a win-win," Bogacki said. "The site never goes away and we can work with the retailers."
Bogacki and Liz Boni, co-owner of Appalachian Arts Studio in Ridgway and the main organizer of the event, initially entertained the idea of hosting it on the Ridgway Firemen's Lot along North Broad Street, but said the event would be better suited on blacktop.
According to Bogacki, truck detours, deliveries and snow removal will be the biggest obstacles.
"Most of it's for local traffic, but it is doable through all of the side streets," Bogacki said. "We are going to keep lanes open for emergency purposes and for the snow removal, so they can receive their deliveries to their store fronts. We are still working out the details of the detour and the management of what it would be to block the street for a full week. I think it will give the retailers a whole new audience."
