Initial plans by a local drilling company to establish a Marcellus Shale gas well drilling pad in Spring Creek Township have already been met with extreme opposition.
The land in question, located along Spring Creek Road, involves parcels reportedly owned by Shirley Melego and land in the national forest system.
The mineral rights, reportedly sold in 1850, eventually came into the hands of Seneca Resources. The owner of the mineral rights reportedly has ingress and egress, and may come onto anyone's property with or without their permission to extract the gas from underneath the surface. The rights were reportedly sold in the original parcel of 256.8 acres.
