Ridgway dominates Kane boys soccer, 9-1

Ridgway boys soccer had little trouble in a 9-1 victory over Kane Saturday morning at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Peter Pontzer scored the first goal of the game just past the 10-minute mark. Luke Bobby would push the Ridgway lead to 2-0 less than two minutes later off a long header and an assist from Justin Kinkead.
Pontzer added his second goal of the game with 17:58 remaining in the first half off an assist from Bryce Dias for a 3-0 lead. Matt Bobby would add a goal off an assist from Luke Bobby with 6:28 left for a 4-0 lead.
Pontzer would secure the hat trick with 6:28 remaining in the half to push the lead to 5-0. Pontzer then assisted Dias on a goal with 46.4 seconds left before halftime as Ridgway had full control at halftime with a 6-0 lead.
The second half saw starting goalkeeper Robbie Byrd have a chance to play in the outfield with the game in hand and he took full advantage of it with a goal 3:57 into the second half with put the mercy rule into effect with a 7-0 lead.
Kane would add a goal after that.
Pontzer put a fourth goal in with 29:10 left in the second half for an 8-1 lead and Kinkead scored on a free kick just under three minutes later as Ridgway led 9-1.
Ridgway (4-6) is scheduled to play at Brockway tonight for a 7 p.m. game.
“They got to win every game but two to get to districts and they know it,” Ridgway coach Todd Voss said. “That’s their goal right now and they’re going to try and get to that.”
