Ridgway falls to Smethport, 52-10

Ridgway girls basketball lost 52-10 to Smethport in action Monday night at Ridgway Area High School.
The Lady Elkers were off to a slow start as Smethport scored the first 16 points of the game in the first quarter, the run capped by a Shannon Hughes 3-pointer with just more than two minutes left in the first half.
Ridgway broke the offensive drought with one minute left in the first quarter as Katie Oknefski hit a 2-point jump shot. Smethport led 18-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Smethport went on a 12-0 run to start the second quarter and build a 30-2 lead before Ridgway had a solid run of sustained offense in the last five minutes of the second quarter. Sophomore point guard Jenni Thomas hit a 3-pointer with five minutes left to cut the margin to 30-5. After a field goal from Megan Zylinski, Taylor Roseto poured in a trey from the top of the key. Kiki Woodford drove the lane and hit a jumper from the foul line as Ridgway had the margin down to 32-10. Smethport led 33-10 at the end of the half.
Smethport's defense kept the Lady Elkers contained in the second half. Smethport outscored the Lady Elkers 9-0 in the third quarter and 10-0 in the fourth quarter to round out the game.
Ridgway (0-5) is at Austin (2-2) Thursday night with junior varsity action to start at 6 p.m.
In Monday's junior varsity game, Ridgway won 20-17.
