Ridgway man charged in gas station beating

April 14, 2014

A Ridgway resident is charged with a felony count of aggravated assault for an incident that allegedly occurred at Kwik Fill on South St. Marys Street Friday afternoon.
According to a police report, Louis A. Amato, 38, of 522 Rock St., Ridgway, was working at the St. Marys Kwik Fill when David Gonzalez, 18, of St. Marys entered the store. Amato reportedly locked the door and proceeded to punch and kick Gonzalez repeatedly in the face, head and body. At some point during the assault, Amato struck Gonzalez with a metal stool, impaling Gonzalez's left thigh with one of the metal legs. Amato reportedly walked away to grab a stick, which gave Gonzalez enough time to get up, unlock the door and escape.
