Ridgway Rotary holds 1st annual Quilting Bee
The Ridgway Rotary is introducing its first annual Quilting Bee fundraiser and local wilderness-themed quilt to be completed by residents.Local residents are invited to join in on the fun and help construct a block of the quilt, which will be drawn for at the Rotary's annual Quilt Show on Oct. 15 at the Udarbe Complex."One of our fundraising projects for this year is to begin the annual Quilting Bee," said Rotarian Linda Assalone Holtz. "All of the profits from raffling the quilt will go right back to the town."The concept is to design a quilt and let the residents help make it."Holtz and members of the Heritage Quilters chose to have the Quilt Show on Oct. 15 to coincide with the the Main Street Program and the Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce Flavors of Fall Festival."The nice part is when a resident makes a block for the quilt, their name will be embroidered on that block and they will become a part of it," Holtz said. Interested residents who want to take part in this year's Quilting Bee may pick up kits at Garner & Jundzilo's Gifts 'N' Goodies on 167 W. Main St., Ridgway."All of the pieces are in a ziploc bag, they take it home, they make it, and they bring it back," Holtz said. "They have really created their own quilt. This is something we would like to do every year with different themes."For more information or to help with the quilt, contact Linda Assalone Holtz at 773-7274.Pick up a copy of the Saturday, June 25, 2011 edition of The Ridgway Record for more.
