Rose M. Wortman Rippy

Rose M. Wortman Rippy, 90, of Canadensis Apartments, 74 Erie Ave., St. Marys, and formerly of Johnsonburg, died March 10, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 20, 1923 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Andrew and Lorena Benninger Wortman. On June 10, 1946 in St. Marys, she married Clement Rippy, who preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1997.
Mrs. Rippy lived in St. Marys for the last 27 years after living in Johnsonburg for 45 years. She attended Central High School and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She retired from Keystone Carbon after 17 years of service and previously worked at Stackpole Carbon Co. and the Elk County Home in St. Marys. She loved crocheting and other crafts.
She is survived by three sons, David Rippy and his wife Connie of Ridgway, Daniel Rippy of Johnsonburg and Michael Rippy of Johnsonburg; four daughters, Mary, Mrs. Laverne Kreckel Jr., Martha, Mrs. Ronald Gabor, and Judy, Mrs. Bruce Fox, all of St. Marys, and Donna Thayer of Johnsonburg; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, William Wortman of St. Marys; and two sisters, Josephine, Mrs. Robert Oxley of Oregon and Ruth Buganza of Punxsutawney.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Paul and Richard Wortman; two sisters, Theresa Wortman and Margaret Jacobs; two half-brothers, Howard and Leonard Wortman; and three half-sisters, Dolores Kolinoski, Regina Klink and Alberta Sporner.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Rose M. Wortman Rippy to be conducted at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 12 at 11 a.m with Rev. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, officiating.
Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be private.
