Ruby Gibbs

Ruby Gibbs, 95, passed away in the afternoon of Wednesday, May 2 at Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls, N.Y.
Ruby was born March 14, 1917 in Ridgway, the daughter of the late Lee and Anne Bowers Gier.
Ruby was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert Gibbs, on July 15, 1993, and her siblings, Cecile Johnson, Grace Cyone, Pearl Plaster, Amos Gier, Aloysius Gier and Virginia Stauffer.
Ruby and Bob were former owners of Rest-A-Y-L Restaurant and Bar in Newcomb, N.Y.
Ruby and Bob moved to Newcomb, N.Y. after their marriage in 1951 in Ridgway, where they resided until 1975, when they moved to Florida for 10 years before moving back north to Warrensburg, N.Y. Ruby had resided in North Creek, N.Y. for several years.
Ruby loved to travel, play cards, fish, do crossword puzzles and write and receive letters from her many nieces, nephews and friends. She especially loved to play jokes on all her family members and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Edna (Welch) Van Auken of Newcomb, N.Y.; her son, Richard L. Gibbs of Coxsackie, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, Jack Gier; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place at noon on Monday, May 7 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Newcomb, N.Y. Interment followed in St. Therese Cemetery. The family suggests memorials take the form of donations to the North Creek Emergency Squad, North Creek, N.Y. 12853.
