Ruth Marie Anstrom

Ruth Marie Anstrom, 89, of Ridgway, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, after a prolonged illness. She passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at Rustic Manor Personal Care Home in Indiana, Pa.
Ruth was born July 8, 1924 in Toby, daughter of the late Ester Christine (Hedlund) and John Alfred Freeburg.
Ruth graduated as valedictorian of her class at Kersey High School in 1942. She married Carl Richard Anstrom on June 5, 1948.
Ruth was employed as a secretary at the Elliot Company, Pontzer and Pontzer law firm and finished her career as secretary of First Lutheran Church, retiring at age 71.
Ruth was a Lutheran, baptized and confirmed at Maria Lutheran Church in Dagus Mines. She also belonged to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church in Ridgway and served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member.
Ruth enjoyed cooking, canning, singing, gardening, birdwatching and spending time with her family. Her door was always open to friends, neighbors and acquaintances and she enjoyed welcoming guests with hot coffee, homemade confections and pleasant conversation.
Ruth is survived by her twin brother Robert M. Freeburg of Ridgway; son and daughter-in-law Philip Anstrom and Tracy Simons of Austin, Texas; son Kevin Anstrom of Ridgway; daughter and son-in-law June (Anstrom) and Robert Stewart of Indiana, Pa.; son and daughter-in-law Joel and Rachel (Donahoe) Anstrom of McAlevy’s Fort, Pa.; and grandchildren Rachel and Julie Stewart, Kevin and Kyle Anstrom, Andrew and Katrina Anstrom and Ruth and David Anstrom.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Richard Anstrom; a son, Arthur Anstrom, in infancy; her parents; and her siblings, Arthur Freeburg, Raymond Freeburg, LeRoy Freeburg, Anna Gibson, Eric Freeburg, Elmer Freeburg and William Freeburg.
Friends of Ruth Marie Anstrom will be received at Thompson Funeral Home, 136 Center St. in Ridgway, on Wednesday, July 31 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Lutheran Church, 331 South St., Ridgway, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1. The service will be officiated by Rev. Brian F. Shirey, former pastor at First Lutheran, who is now pastor of Brighton Heights Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh.
