The Ridgway Area School District Board of Directors approved a preliminary budget during Tuesday night's regular meeting, which will not include a tax increase for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
The board voted unanimously in favor of approving the preliminary budget with revenues and expenditures of $11,840,091.
According to Finance Manager Brent Rhoads, one of the first changes to the budget included the elimination of a .8 tax mill increase.
"The board has decided that we are not going to have a tax increase for this year," Rhoads said. "The budget as we are showing is a decrease of 1.5 percent compared to the prior year's budget and there are four retirements included in those numbers."
Rhoads indicated that there will not be a transfer to the Long Term Maintenance Fund.
"We do though continue to do the maintenance programs here at the school and we are spending money," Rhoads said. "Our long term maintenance tests show about $300,000 in expenditures for next year to try to keep the building and grounds in the conditions that they are in without going through renovations."
According to Rhoads, the District has budgeted $150,000 for an upgrade in technology.
"Our budget being presented [Tuesday night] is almost at the same budget we had in 2004-2005," Rhoads said. "So we are going back several years in expenditures."
Rhoads said the district will continue their drive to improve test scores and student performance.
The projected expenditures for the 2012-2013 year include spending $7,087,165 on instruction; $4,215,087 for support services; $253,239, non-instructional; and $284,600 on other financing.
