Superintendent reviews goals for upcoming year

September 14, 2011

Ridgway Area School District superintendent Dr. Michael O'Brien reviewed the board's goals for the upcoming year during Tuesday night's regular meeting.
"As you know we started to and we will continue to review our goals to help us understand why we are here," O'Brien said. "One of our goals is that our students will become creative problem solvers with the ability to synthesize and analyze possible solutions to challenging problems."
Another goal of the board is to make sure the students are receiving comprehensive literacy skills.
"I can tell with my business in the building that this is definitely happening," O'Brien said. "We will also provide a safe environment where students receive appropriate intervention strategies. We are doing that now during the normal school day, but also in the evening. We are providing for our kids a safe environment not only during the school day but for after-school activities."
O'Brien also stressed the importance of creating a positive environment for the students in his report.
"We talked about creating a positive environment for our students, whether it's educationally or socially," O'Brien said.
