Vincent Drago

Vincent Drago, 102, of Portland Mills Road, Ridgway, and formerly of St. Louis, Missouri, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Elk Regional Health Center, after complications from pneumonia.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Hope Coville Drago of Ridgway; son Tyrone Drago of St. Decorah, Iowa; four daughters and one son-in-law, Pat Hicks of Manchester, Missouri, Carole Ewald of Baldwin, Missouri, Vicki and Jim Krebs of St. Charles, Missouri and Joy Drago of Cranberry Twp; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Born in Palermo, Sicily, Jan. 1, 1909, he was the last surviving son of six sons born to Luigi and Mattia Calamia Drago .
Vincent and his parents and two brothers immigrated to the United States in 1912 and settled in St. Louis, Missouri. At an early age, he began working to help support his family. Over his life time he worked many different jobs such as hauling dry ice for refrigeration, working in a hat company, candy company, construction, beauty salon, etc. He was most known for owning his own fruit and produce store for many years in St. Louis and after retirement in Daguscahonda.
He, his wife, and daughter Joy moved to Ridgway in 1975.
Vince was known by his friends and family for his unending love and support of his family and love of life. He had an amazing energy, mowing his own grass, working on cars, and playing with his grandchildren up until his death. He was a testimony to living life to its fullest, working hard, and giving your all in everything. He was a proud man, who lived humbly.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent Drago will be celebrated at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Main St. Kersey, on Friday, April 1, 2011, at 12 p.m. Officiating will be Fr. Brian Vossler, pastor of St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in Lake City Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home on Thurday, March 31, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
