Last season, the Ridgway boys' varsity basketball team played their way to an amazing 29-2 season, a journey highlighted by several pivotal moments: a 45-38 win Dec. 30, 2011 over Johnsonburg to win the county's holiday basketball tournament; a 49-46 win Feb. 18 over the Rams to win the Allegheny Mountain League [AML] crown; and a 40-37 win March 3 against the Rams in Clarion to earn the District 9 Class title.
With favorable seeding in the state playoffs as a district champion, the Elkers rolled through the first three rounds of the state tournament, earning a 48-40 win March 9 over Sewickley Academy, a 73-50 win March 13 over Kennedy Catholic, and a 58-51 win March 16 in the quarterfinals against VisionQuest.
